Marvel just introduced the ultimate X-Men hero, combining the powers of the franchise's greatest mutants, including Cyclops and Colossus. Here's every character this mutant heavyweight combines, and how their appearance changes X-Men history.

Across X-Men lore, there are a number of heroes and villains who can steal, borrow or copy the powers of others, from Rogue and Hope Summers to more deep-cut characters like Mimic and Synch.

Now, Marvel unleashes the ultimate form of this well-worn trope, with one hero combining the powers of Wolverine, Jean Grey, Magneto and more into one epic hero. Their name? Krakoa.

X-Men's Krakoa Is The Ultimate Mutant Hero

X-MEN'S KRAKOA VS GODZILLA

In today's Godzilla Conquers the Multiverse #4 - from Gerry Duggan, Javier Garrón, David Curiel and Travis Lanham - Doctor Doom's Avengers take on Godzilla. As part of the fight, Emma Frost talks Swamp-Thing into teleporting in the cavalry - a hero from a reality where the mutant nation of Krakoa never fell, referred to as "Universe M."

The hero who arrives is Krakoa itself - a living island which feeds on mutant power. In the world where the nation of Krakoa remained a world power, the island has spent decades feeding on its residents in a controlled symbiosis. It's revealed that the long-term outcome of this process is that Krakoa has inherited a huge range of powers.

In Marvel's mainstream canon, Krakoa was forced to leave reality after a series of attacks on mutantkind, now existing outside time and space along with a gigantic mutant population. A former enemy first seen in 1975's Giant-Size X-Men #1, Krakoa is considered a mutant of its species, with an ancient history and ties to the villainous Apocalypse.

Marvel's Universe M Is a Major Introduction

X-MEN'S KRAKOA VS GODZILLA WITH CYCLOPS' POWERS

While Godzilla Conquers the Multiverse is all about bombast and spectacle, the introduction of "Universe M" could be the biggest thing that comes out of this series. This is the first confirmation of an ongoing alternate reality where Krakoa succeeded, and giving it such a definitive name seems intended to fix it in canon as somewhere Marvel's heroes could visit.

The Krakoan Era was essentially a reboot for X-Men lore, unifying heroes and villains and adding major new lore like Moira X's epic plan to reshape the timeline. The end of the era and the return to classic X-Men stories was celebrated by some and mourned by others, even as Marvel branded this era "The First Krakoan Age," with the implication that its concepts would one day return.

X-Men #35, Krakoa leaves Earth as the narration declares: "So ends the First Krakoan Age."

Establishing that there's a singular, specific universe where Krakoa endured opens up the easy possibility for stories set in this timeline, especially now that the X-Men (or at least Emma Frost) know it exists. As cool as it is to see Krakoa wielding Cyclops and Colossus' powers, the real reveal is that there's a universe out there where the Krakoa Era continues unabated, Resurrection Protocols and all.

Godzilla x Marvel Is Paying Off Its Concept In Unbelievable Ways

Godzilla is possessed by Knull in Godzilla Conquers the Multiverse #1

Godzilla Conquers the Multiverse promised to pit Godzilla against Marvel's greatest kaiju, and it's paying off that promise in ways fans never expected. From the Centurion mech that unites the powers of the X-Men and Avengers to Miles Morales' pet kaiju Omeg to a Fin Fang Foom mech piloted by the Punisher, every Marvel kaiju hasn't just appeared - they've been reinvented in their ultimate form.

X-Men's Krakoa is no exception, as the mutant franchise's answer to Godzilla doesn't just face off against the King of Monsters, but harnesses the combined powers of mutantkind to do it.

Godzilla Conquers the Multiverse #4 is available now from Marvel Comics.
