Jimmy Kimmel Live! sidekick Guillermo Rodriguez has become one of the shining stars of Dancing With the Stars season 35.

DWTS hosted its first-ever Mariah Carey night on Tuesday (Oct. 6), with each of the pairs delivering a routine with a Mariah anthem providing the soundtrack. Carey even sent in a video message, telling the DWTS contestants she would be “cheering you on from afar.”

Guillermo and his professional dance partner, Witney Carson, who’s competing this season while pregnant, elected to go with MC’s 2009 “Obsessed,” which finds Mariah shading Eminem, who claimed that he dated the pop icon in the past.

Carson and Guillermo stepped onto the dance floor with sunglasses and A-list celebrity swagger as flashes from mock photographers filled the introduction. They breezed through the samba routine in less than 90 seconds, which finished with a hilarious belly bump and drew a loud ovation from the audience on hand.

“You know why he is so loved? Because he’s vulnerable,” one fan commented on YouTube. “He knows he’s not the most technical but he’s showing up, trying to learn something new (in front of thousands of people), and being judged for it. It’s entertaining, it’s enjoyable, it’s good for all ages.”

However, the judges didn’t lend the same approval in their reaction to the duo’s performance. “What was going on? No, I’m serious. Where is all your joy?” judge Carrie Inaba asked. Bruno Tonioli dissed Guillermo’s form, saying his technique is “beyond critique.”

Carson and Guillermo ended up scoring a lowly 13 out of 30. It isn’t all bad news for the team, as Carson and the Jimmy Kimmel Live! star weren’t eliminated and will be returning to the show next week.

“Obsessed” arrived in 2009 as part of her Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel album, which saw MC bring her male alter ego to life in the music video. The single peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100. Eminem didn’t waste much time with his response either, firing back with “The Warning.”
