3 Best Movies To Watch On Prime Video This Weekend (September 19-20)

Prime Video subscribers will find three movies of different genres, but all with exciting stars and concepts, on the streaming service this weekend. On last weekend's Prime Video movie recommendations, I went over why viewers might be interested in watching the romantic thriller Drawn Together, Jared Leto's controversial superhero movie Morbius, and Alan Ritchson's action comedy Playdate on the streamer.
At the time of writing, only one of those movies is still trending on Prime Video, and it remains a timely option for those who have not checked it out already. After all, the Spanish thriller Drawn Together is still the most-watched movie on Prime Video in the United States. It dethroned Gal Gadot's action movie The Runner right after debuting, and it has not looked back.
Different from last weekend's list, which had two Prime Video original movies, this weekend's recommendations are all licensed films. That said, this does not make the roster of movies available for Prime Video subscribers this weekend any less exciting. The three movies I previously talked about were all connected in the action department, but this shifts for the new list.
The best movies for Prime Video subscribers this weekend are a heist film with magic as the driving force, a horror thriller with a concept that led to an expansive franchise, and an R-rated thriller with quite a few stars. Get ready for an exciting week at home with the following movies on Prime Video:
3 Now You See Me (2013)
Now You See Me is an energetic movie to start the weekend on Prime Video. The film comes with a star-studded cast, including names like Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher, Dave Franco, Mélanie Laurent, Morgan Freeman, and Michael Caine. Now You See Me arrived on Prime Video on September 1, having made a whopping $342.8 million when it released in theaters.
Now You See Me follows The Four Horsemen, magicians that use high-end tricks to perform heists with the goal of exposing corrupt people while becoming legends in the eyes of the general population. The movie has many visually creative sequences to represent the magic tricks the group pulls, and with each of The Four Horsemen having different skills, it is a blast through and through.
2 The Purge (2013)
The Purge gives the list a much-needed dose of horror. After making a trip to the theater to watch Zach Cregger's Resident Evil movie, I felt this was the perfect option to go with that film for those checking it out in theaters. The Purge is a brutal horror experience that explores a world where every crime is allowed for a single night of the year.
There have been many movies in the horror franchise, but the original, 2013's The Purge, remains a special release. After arriving on Prime Video on September 1, subscribers can now watch as Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey desperately try to protect their children as mysterious assailants with freakish masks attempt to break into their home.
1 The Amateur (2025)
Ending our list is The Amateur, an R-rated spy thriller that packs quite the talented ensemble to go with the other star-led movies this weekend on Prime Video. The Amateur centers its story on Rami Malek's Charlie Heller, who goes from having a CIA desk job to blackmailing the agency to teach him everything he knows to go after the terrorists who killed his wife.
The Amateur is a dark and raw action movie with intense performances from a star-studded cast. Joining Malek are actors like Jon Bernthal, Rachel Brosnahan, Holt McCallany, Caitríona Balfe, Julianne Nicholson, and Laurence Fishburne. The Amateur is a timely release for two reasons. First, it is Prime Video's 8th most-watched movie in the United States, having hit the milestone of 50 days on the charts. Second, its director, James Hawes, helmed two episodes of HBO's new hit series Lanterns. As such, it is a great movie to end the weekend on Prime Video.
