Sifuna Makes Public Appeal to Nabii Nabwera to Join Linda Mwananchi Ahead of 2027

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has made a personal appeal to Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera to join the Linda Mwananchi movement ahead of the 2027 General Election, publicly expressing his desire to reunite with his former political ally.

Sifuna made the appeal on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, during the requiem mass of Ambassador Burudi Nabwera at Lang’ata Friends Church in Nairobi.

Addressing the congregation, the senator acknowledged that he and Nabwera, who previously worked closely within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), had drifted apart because of political differences.

“Politics is very interesting because Nabii used to be my friend,” Sifuna said.

“Because of the nature of our politics, I don’t remember the last time I saw Nabii. In fact, when I saw him today, it’s been almost a year since I saw Nabii.”

The senator blamed what he described as the pettiness of Kenyan politics for the distance between them, arguing that political associations can lead to individuals being labelled or judged.

“Our politics is so petty that sometimes being seen with some of us, you are branded — they say now you are hanging out with Sifuna, you are now a bad person,” he said.

Turning directly to the Lugari lawmaker, Sifuna made an emotional appeal for them to reconnect politically.

“I want to say in this church, I miss my friend. Nabii, do not pretend you have not heard me. I miss my friend. You know the things that we have done together, you know the journey that we have done together in ODM, and if it was up to me, even the journey that we are on right now, I would want Nabii by my side,” he added.

Sifuna invokes family ties in Kakamega

Sifuna also highlighted his personal connection to Kakamega County, revealing that he was born and educated in the region and that his mother comes from the area.

He noted that Nabwera represents the constituency where his maternal relatives live, recalling how he had previously campaigned for the MP among his uncles.

“When he was looking for votes, I was there with him in my uncle’s home, telling them that this is a good man. Please elect him,” Sifuna said.

He suggested that the same family networks could become important as he seeks support for his political ambitions.

“Nabii knows those uncles will come to you again because this time around, we are looking for something and we need you to support us at that time,” he added.

Sifuna’s appeal comes amid his political fallout with ODM’s leadership, which culminated in his removal as the party’s secretary-general. He has since positioned the Linda Mwananchi movement as a platform for his political ambitions ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The requiem mass also brought together senior political figures, including National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.

Linda Mwananchi announces next rally

Separately, Sifuna has announced that the Linda Mwananchi movement will hold its next rally in Kwale County on October 31, 2026.

The announcement followed discussions with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at his Wamunyoro residence.
