The new season of an ABC medical series has become an instant streaming hit. The network has a long history of turning medical shows into successes. This includes their recent drama The Good Doctor, a remake of a South Korean series which follows a surgeon (Freddie Highmore) with autism and savant syndrome and ran for seven seasons between 2017 and 2024. ABC also has a homegrown medical series franchise with the Shonda Rhimes series Grey's Anatomy, which has been on the air consistently since 2005, running for 22 seasons so far and spawning the spinoffs Private Practice and Station 19.

ABC's latest entrant in the genre is the medical sitcom Scrubs, a newly rebooted series that is a sequel to the nine-season cult classic which ran between 2001 and 2010. While the original show began as an NBC series, it changed networks to ABC after season 7. Season 1 of the reboot debuted in February 2026, with Scrubs season 2 coming hot on its heels with a two-episode premiere on September 30. While the show features a new cast of young doctors, legacy stars Zach Braff, Sarah Chalke, and Donald Faison take the lead, reprising their original roles.

After the premiere became available on streaming on October 1, Scrubs season 2 quickly climbed up the chart of the most watched TV shows on Disney+ in multiple regions. In nearly two dozen territories, it first appeared on the chart on October 3, debuting at No. 4 in the United States and No. 1 in 12 regions, including Canada, Albania, Norway and Sweden. It has maintained a place in the Top 10 in every territory in which it has charted every day since then, also landing on the overall Top 10 (which counts both movies and shows) in 12 territories.

In the United States, Scrubs settled at No. 7 on October 6. It has proven able to hold its own against a number of Halloween-themed that have been charting throughout October, including the new season of the Ryan Murphy anthology American Horror Story (which had its three-episode premiere on September 24) and the debut season of the Freeform supernatural drama Coven Academy, which premiered with four episodes on October 1. Scrubs' performance compared to these series is all the more impressive because fewer episodes are currently available.

Where Does Season 2 Pick Up The ABC Sequel?

The Scrubs season 2 premiere saw the show picking back up shortly after where it left off with the season 1 finale. The crux of the episode saw returning legacy character Dr. Cox (John C. McGinley) back at Sacred Heart as a patient as his autoimmune disorder proves stubbornly difficult to treat, troubling J.D. (Braff), Elliot (Chalke), Turk (Faison), and fellow recurring legacy character Carla (Judy Reyes). Meanwhile, intern Sam Tosh (Ava Bunn, newly promoted to series regular) struggles to make life-or-death decisions while also trying to hide her blossoming relationship with fellow intern Asher (Jacob Dudman).

Scrubs season 2 promises to continue following the journeys of the legacy characters as well as Tosh's growth as she tries to establish her identity at the hospital. Should audiences find themselves engrossed in the ongoing storylines as more episodes drop on ABC, arriving on Disney+ the next day, the show could maintain a place on the streaming service's Top 10 for many weeks to come, potentially even climbing to No. 1.

Scrubs season 2 airs on ABC on Wednesdays at 8/7C.
