NTT seeks Chinese partnerships in fisheries, salt, and tourism

Kupang (ANTARA) - The East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) provincial government explored potential cooperation opportunities with a delegation from China's Jiangxi Province to develop local strengths in salt production, fisheries, agriculture, livestock, and tourism.
"NTT has abundant natural resources. If managed properly, this potential could deliver positive impacts for society. Hence, we need partnerships, knowledge, innovation, and experience from various parties to support regional development," NTT Deputy Governor Johni Asadoma said in Kupang on Wednesday.
He received a Chinese delegation led by Tu Anbo, executive vice president of the Jiangxi People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, during an introductory meeting attended by leaders of Belu, North Central Timor, Sabu Raijua, Rote Ndao, and Kupang districts.
The meeting resulted in a preliminary cooperation document signed by Belu District Head Willybrodus Lay and a representative of the visiting delegation.
Asadoma described the meeting as an opportunity for NTT to expand its international partnerships while identifying ways to leverage regional potential to generate added value, create jobs, and improve community welfare.
Despite its vast potential across several strategic sectors, he acknowledged that the province continues to face development challenges related to equitable access to education, healthcare services, infrastructure development, and local economic growth.
With that in mind, Asadoma said his administration is seeking partnerships to support local business development, downstream processing of local products, investment promotion, and human resource development.
He added that the province has launched several initiatives to expand market access for local products and increase their added value, including the One Village One Product, Buy NTT, and NTT Mart programs.
Rote Ndao District Head Paulus Henuk used the meeting to highlight potential cooperation with Chinese partners in salt production and tourism.
Meanwhile, Sabu Raijua District Head Krisman Kore proposed collaboration in the salt, seaweed, and fisheries sectors to attract investment and boost the local economy.
Chinese delegation leader Tu Anbo expressed appreciation for the NTT administration's reception, voicing hope that the meeting will pave the way for sustained partnerships with the provincial government and districts across NTT.
