Asian Games: Wushu, karate take centre stage as medal quest continues [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: National athletes will continue their quest for medals across a number of sports at the Aichi-Nagoya Asia Games on Monday.

The karate squad will look to add to the two bronze medals they won on Sunday, through Haznil Henry (men's individual kata) and Zakiah Adnan (women's kumite under-61kg).

K. Thevendran (men's kumite under-55kg) and H. Sureeya Sankar (men's under-60kg) delivered bronze in their events - Malaysia's first two medals of the ames.

Wushu exponents Lee Jia Rong and Loh Ying Ting will also compete for a podium spot in the women's changquan final.

Artistic gymnast Shahrul Aimy Kamaru Hisam will begin his campaign with the men's qualification round.

In swimming, Lim Yin Chuen and Tong Yu Jin will see action in the men's 50m freestyle while Andrew Goh will compete in the men's 100m breaststroke.

The men's 4x200m freestyle quartet of Khiew Hoe Yean, Arvin Shaun Singh Chahal, Dhuha Zulfikry and Tan Khai Xin will also be competing.

For the team events, Malaysia will compete in the group stage across a number of sports.

All eyes will be on the men's badminton squad who will open their campaign in the team event with a first round date with minnows Mongolia. It should be a straightforward affair.

In basketball 5x5, the women's national team will face Taiwan in Group C while the men's sepak takraw squad will play the Philippines in the team regu event (Group B).

The women's field hockey squad, who thumped Kazakhstan 5-0 on Friday, will continue their Pool A campaign against Bangladesh.
