Man charged with murder over alleged stabbing death of Rockingham father

A man has been charged with murder after a Perth father was found allegedly stabbed to death in Rockingham on Friday evening.

Police say emergency services were called to the intersection of Mandurah Road and Chesterfield Road after 44-year-old Cameron Lee was found seriously injured about 7.30pm.

It is understood Lee was found with injuries consistent with stab wounds, and he was rushed to Rockingham General Hospital.

However, Lee died from his injuries.

Police investigating the alleged murder said a man was being questioned by police over Lee’s death on Saturday night, and confirmed he had been arrested and charged with murder.

The 46-year-old man from Byford is due to appear in Northbridge’s overnight court on Sunday morning.

Further to the alleged murder, police said they have reason to believe a car connected with Lee’s death was later found burnt out in the Byford area.

The blue Hyundai Getz was seen driving erratically around Rockingham and Byford, before witnesses told 9 News Perth they saw a man exit the vehicle, and it go up in flames.

Police have not confirmed how the car is allegedly linked.

Officers have asked anyone with information about either the car or Lee’s death to contact them as soon as possible.

Lee’s daughter has taken to GoFundMe to ask for help in raising funeral costs for her father, saying her family were heartbroken over his loss.

“This has happened so suddenly and has left our family completely heartbroken and trying to process the loss of someone we love so deeply. Losing my dad in such a sudden and tragic way is something no family should ever have to go through,” she said.

“Rest peacefully, Dad. You will always be loved, always be remembered, and never be forgotten.”

Meanwhile in Perth’s north, police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of a second stabbing at a local shopping centre.

Police were called to the upper food court area of Joondalup shopping centre just after 4pm on Saturday.

“It is alleged a knife was produced during the incident and a man aged in his 20s sustained injuries consistent with a stab wound. He was conveyed by St John WA to Royal Perth Hospital for treatment of serious injuries,” a WA police spokesperson said.

Footage of the man being wheeled through the shopping centre by paramedics was posted to social media, and it is understood he is continuing treatment for his injuries. Police said they believe the parties were known to each other, but no one has been charged at this stage.

“Police understand incidents of this nature can cause concern within the community; however, this appears to be an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to public safety. Officers will continue to maintain a visible presence in the area as inquiries continue,” the spokesperson said.
