Translate

A fire at the Ghana Grid Company Limited’s (GRIDCo) Mallam Substation disrupted electricity supply to parts of Accra in the early hours of Wednesday, October 14, 2026.

In a statement issued by its Corporate Communications Section, GRIDCo said a fault occurred at the substation at 2:36 a.m. on October 14, resulting in a fire on one of its transformers.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service responded to the incident and successfully contained and extinguished the blaze.

GRIDCo said power had been restored to some affected areas, with efforts continuing to reconnect the remaining communities as quickly as possible.

The company’s engineers are investigating the cause of the fire, while steps have been initiated to replace the damaged transformer.

GRIDCo apologised for the disruption and thanked affected customers and stakeholders for their patience and understanding.
