‘Nothing has changed’ – Man City chairman reassures fans after club found guilty of FFP breaches

Manchester City finds itself in choppy waters after it was found guilty of ⁠all but one of ‌the 115 alleged ‌breaches ‌of ⁠the ⁠Premier League’s financial rules.

The outcome of an independent hearing that began more than two years ago could send shock waves through English football. The legacy of City’s trophy-laden era is on the line over accusations that it had been built on financial impropriety.

But Manchester City’s chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak reassured the fans in a letter to the fans on Saturday, maintaining that the verdict has not altered anything at the club.

“The Premier League process still has a long way to run, and our confidence and intent in proving the Club’s innocence is just as strong as when this began,” he wrote in a letter published on the club website.

“While some people have been quick to reach their own conclusions, and there is so much noise swirling around us, nothing has changed. We have faced challenges together before and have prevailed. There remain many who want to undermine the momentum of our Club. We will not give them that opportunity,” Al Mubarak added.

The Premier League charged City – under League’s Rule W.82.1 – with several financial breaches between the 2009-10 and 2017-18 seasons. With the club found guilty of most of the charges, there can be several consequences, which could range from point deductions to, worse, relegation.

City further said in its statement: “The Premier League process remains ongoing, with significant elements to be completed, and subject to strict confidentiality. As such, Manchester City FC’s position remains consistent with the Club’s statement of February 2023.”

“The Club has diligently respected due process for eight years on the basis that the Premier League Board and Executive would behave as an independent, impartial and fair-minded regulator, free from partisan influence,” the club added.
