Upcoming Marvel Movies: MCU Phase 6 And Beyond (Release Dates & Details)

Although the rate of upcoming Marvel movies has slowed, there is still plenty to anticipate between the MCU Phase 6 release slate and other Marvel movies beyond the MCU. This release slate incorporates both films and shows, which will either air on Disney+ or other streamers.
Marvel movies in general are in the midst of a pivotal moment. As MCU Phase 6 rounds out the Multiverse Saga and heralds a rebooted MCU, Sony's oversight of the Spider-Man franchise has become more laser-focused on the popular wall-crawler following the demise of Sony's Spider-Man Universe, which concluded with Kraven the Hunter in 2024.
Information about these upcoming Marvel movies will be updated as further details are released. In the meantime, here's what to expect from all things Marvel throughout the coming years.
1 Avengers: Doomsday - December 18, 2026
Avengers: Doomsday is slated to release on December 18, 2026, which was pushed back from the original release date of May 1, 2026. It will be the first official Avengers movie since 2019's Avengers: Endgame, and the first Avengers movie within the Multiverse Saga (Thunderbolts*' New Avengers title change notwithstanding).
Principal photography for Avengers: Doomsday began at the end of April 2025, and scenes from that set have been used in the post-credits scenes of Thunderbolts* and The Fantastic Four: First Steps to set the stage for the movie's plot, which has been more fleshed out through promotional materials.
The story revolves around an incursion between three worlds: the MCU's primary Earth-616, the Fantastic Four's Earth-828, and a new world that hosts an X-Men team reminiscent of Fox's original X-Men franchise, plus Gambit. These worlds will collide, with Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom emerging as the threat that the mightiest heroes from across these universes must work together to stop.
The Russo Brothers have been brought back to direct Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars following their dizzying success with prior double-tentpoles, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. The directors have championed the involvement of Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom as a pivotal reason for their return.
A significant portion of the Avengers: Doomsday cast was revealed in an hours-long live-stream media stunt in March 2025. The cast includes veteran MCU actors comprising the Avengers, New Avengers, and Wakandans, in addition to MCU newcomers, the Fantastic Four, and characters from Fox's X-Men franchise. Avengers Endgame: Encore revealed Hulk, Mobius, Ouroboros, and more will also factor in.
The first of many Avengers: Doomsday trailers was released in December 2025, giving audiences their first look at Chris Evans' return as Steve Rogers. Since then, Marvel Studios has dropped several more trailers that highlight the returning X-Men from the Fox era, along with The Fantastic Four, Thor, and more.
2 Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse - June 4, 2027
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse's release date has been pushed back several times since it was first announced in 2021, but is currently slated for June 4, 2027. It is the first, and only, upcoming Marvel movie with a confirmed release date to sit outside the MCU's continuity as it rounds out Sony's animated Spider-Verse trilogy.
As the third installment of the trilogy, it is set to conclude Miles Morales' multiverse-hopping adventures after Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse saw him trapped with a seemingly villainous variant of himself, the Prowler, in another universe. Meanwhile, Spider-Gwen leads the charge as a rebellious cohort of Spider-Variants prepares to rescue their friend, to the chagrin of Miguel O'Hara.
Specific story details are still under wraps as production meticulously forges ahead, with Sony no doubt striving to triple down on the dizzying critical and financial success of the trilogy's first two installments. Justin K. Thompson and Bob Persichetti, who directed Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, respectively, are co-directing the third installment.
With how Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse ended, most, if not all, of the main cast from that movie are expected to return for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. As yet, no new cast members have been confirmed to be joining the project as new characters.
3 Avengers: Secret Wars - December 17, 2027
Avengers: Secret Wars will release one year after Avengers: Doomsday on December 17, 2027. This follows the same format as Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, though there are notably no MCU movies announced to fill the space between, like Ant-Man and the Wasp and Captain Marvel did during the Infinity Saga's climax.
Story details for Avengers: Secret Wars are unsurprisingly sparse. For now, it is confirmed that Doctor Doom will remain the arch-villain, while clues to the plot can be gleaned from the comic run of the same name, in which Doom rules over Battleworld, a world cobbled together with sections of different universes, as its omnipotent God Emperor.
It is also clear that Avengers: Secret Wars will precede a now-confirmed reboot of the MCU. This may be part of a cataclysm that necessitates new actors in high-profile roles like Iron Man and Professor X, or it could follow comic book precedent wherein a new multiverse is created at the end.
The Russo Brothers are returning to direct Avengers: Secret Wars, with most of Doomsday's cast, plus surely some new additions, set to appear. Filming has yet to commence on the MCU's final Phase 6 movie, even though the Russos said at SDCC 2026 that production would start soon.
4 Untitled X-Men Movie - May 5, 2028
Marvel Studios has had its eyes on making the first MCU X-Men movie since 2019. Rather than force the grand introduction of mutants into the Multiverse Saga, members have been peppered throughout different films, such as with Jean Grey's debut in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
She will join the team at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters officially in Marvel's currently untitled X-Men movie, which is on the slate for a May 5, 2028 release. The movie is set to be directed by Thunderbolts*' Jake Schreier, based on a script that has been worked on by Michael Lesslie, Lee Sung Jin, and Joanna Calo.
The MCU's X-Men movie cast will be headlined by Sadie Sink's Jean Grey. She'll be joined by regulars of the mutant team in Cyclops (Kit Connor), Storm (Maya Boyd), Angel (Asa Germann), Rogue (Inde Navarrette), and Professor X (Christopher Abbott). Mister Sinister (Adam Driver) is set to be the main villain, with Emma Frost (Samara Weaving) also slated to appear.
Specific story details remain unconfirmed. Jean will be X-Men's main character. It will also take place post-Secret Wars and kick off a whole new saga, which is widely expected to be the Mutant Saga.
5 Ghost Rider - 2028
Ghost Rider is finally heading to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. During Marvel Studios’ Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed that a Ghost Rider movie is in development and scheduled for release on July 28, 2028. While plot details remain firmly under wraps, the project already boasts an impressive creative team.
Ryan Gosling will star as the iconic motorcycle-riding vigilante, fulfilling a role he has publicly expressed interest in for years. Shawn Levy is signed to direct, with the pair revealing on stage at SDCC that they spent time discussing the character while working together on Star Wars: Starfighter. Levy, who previously directed Deadpool & Wolverine, explained that those conversations gradually evolved into a genuine pitch for the film.
Ghost Rider is the second confirmed movie after Avengers: Secret Wars and the conclusion of the Multiverse Saga. While the next saga and phase have not been officially named or confirmed, Ghost Rider should play a pivotal role in establishing the MCU's future.
6 Black Panther 3 - December 15, 2028
Black Panther 3 was confirmed to be in development in December 2024, though the anticipated third installment will release December 15, 2028. Like Ghost Rider, Black Panther 3 will form part of the MCU's as-yet-unnamed third saga, which will likely see the rise of a new generation of heroes.
Letitia Wright (Shuri) and Winston Duke (M'Baku) are confirmed to return and will be joined by David Jonsson (The Long Walk, Alien) as the new Black Panther. Jonsson will play the son of Chadwick Boseman's T'Challa, who was teased as a child at the end of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
The only plot details revealed thus far suggest it will follow T'Challa II growing up and inheriting his father's mantle. Presumably, part of this narrative (or perhaps as part of the Multiverse Saga's conclusion) will include or explain the character aging up.
Ryan Coogler, who wrote and directed the first two Black Panther movies, is on board to direct Black Panther 3. Hollywood royalty, Denzel Washington, is also confirmed to be involved in an as-yet-undisclosed role.
7 Shang-Chi 2 - Release Date TBD
Marvel's sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has taken longer than expected to happen, but it is still in development. Director Destin Daniel Cretton got busy with Spider-Man: Brand New Day, while Shang Chi actor Simu Liu was then recruited to work on Avengers: Doomsday; he's also confirmed his return for Avengers: Secret Wars.
It will therefore presumably fall to Avengers: Doomsday to address the post-credits tease in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which saw the titular hero and other Avengers veterans discovering a beacon nestled within Shang-Chi's Ten Rings. Shang-Chi 2, therefore, will likely pick up after Shang-Chi's activities in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
Cretton confirmed in 2026 that Shang-Chi 2 remains in active development, but there is no timetable for its release. With the 2028 slate already full, the best case scenario is that it can come early in Phase 7 and get a 2029 release date, although that might mean forging ahead without Cretton directing.
