Considering just how popular it once was, it really would have been pretty unthinkable to imagine the Metal Gear franchise in the place it's in right now. The departure of series creator Hideo Kojima from Konami back in 2015 put the future of the series into doubt, and we haven't really had much clarification from those who own the rights to it since.

Apart from Survive, which is one of the poorest games in the series to date, the only Metal Gear releases we have seen since Kojima left the company are the compilation Master Collections and the remake, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. It will be interesting to see exactly where they plan to go next, but it would be a shame if such an iconic series were to be abandoned entirely.

While we wait, there are plenty of other releases coming out that are attached to the franchise, and if you are a fan who is thinking of widening your physical collection, there's a product you should absolutely be aware of.

Over on the Gecco website, you should be able to find the product listing for the Raiden 1/6 Scale Statue, a highly detailed polystone effort that is absolutely aimed at premium collectors.

In sharing a little about their inspirations behind designing the statue and what fans can expect if they do decide to commit to the purchase, the manufacturer included the following description:

"Raiden, whose powerful presence and pivotal role defined the stealth-action masterpiece "METAL GEAR SOLID 4 GUNS OF THE PATRIOTS," has been captured as a 1/6 scale statue.

"Every element, from his intricate cyborg exoskeleton to his high-frequency blade and tactical knife, is sculpted with breathtaking precision. The base is modeled after Raiden’s iconic scenes supporting Solid Snake, featuring the scattered remains of a defeated Gekko. His dignified stance and focused expression perfectly convey his unwavering sense of duty to protect Snake. This release also includes an interchangeable head part with his visor lowered for added display versatility."

Priced at $399.99, it certainly isn't in the realms of impulse buy, but if you have been saving up for a new physical release of this ilk, then you'd struggle to find a better example. The statue is currently available for pre-order, and it is expected to dispatch to customers by the end of November at the latest.

As for the games, we can almost certainly expect more Metal Gear remakes and remasters at some point, but the idea of getting a new mainline entry in the series remains a bit of a pipe dream. Let's hope Konami finds a way to move forward that works for fans and the original work, or an iconic franchise could be lost to time.
