Mithun Chakraborty appointed BJP-led Bengal govt's cultural advisor, to hold cabinet rank

Veteran actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty was on Wednesday appointed cultural advisor to the West Bengal government with the rank of a cabinet minister, according to a government notification.

The appointment was made by the Information and Cultural Affairs Department with immediate effect. Bengal chief minister Suvendu Adhikari announced the decision.

Chakraborty, one of the most prominent names in Indian cinema, has had a long association with Bengali films and has also worked extensively in Hindi cinema. He joined the BJP in 2021 and has since been active in the party's political activities in West Bengal.

The actor has been a prominent campaigner for the BJP in the state, particularly during the 2021 West Bengal Assembly election and subsequent political campaigns.
