Prime Video's New Supernatural Thriller Adaptation Casts A Walking Dead Legend

Prime Video's supernatural thriller series Stillwater is adding a Walking Dead star to its cast.

News broke in September that Stillwater, based on the graphic novel by Chip Zdarsky and Ramón K. Pérez, was moving quickly after casting Ben Hardy, who starred in Bohemian Rhapsody and X-Men: Apocalypse, in the lead role. The actor, also known for his work in The Voyeurs opposite Sydney Sweeney, will play an ex-con who enters a town and finds far more than he ever thought possible. The premise has drawn comparisons to Twin Peaks and From.

Deadline reports that Lauren Cohan is among a trio of actors set for series regular roles in Stillwater alongside Hardy. Cohan, best known for her role as Maggie in The Walking Dead universe, was confirmed alongside Mark O'Brien (Ready or Not) and Mia Tomlinson, who recently co-starred with Hardy in The Conjuring: Last Rites.

The upcoming Prime Video Original centers on Daniel West, an ex-con who receives a mysterious letter offering answers about his past and the promise of a sizable inheritance. Both lead him to the small town of Stillwater, where he soon discovers something deeply unsettling. It's the fact that, in this community, nothing grows older, nobody ever dies, and no one is able to leave.

Cohan, who is also known for her roles as Rose in The Vampire Diaries and Bela Talbot in Supernatural, portrays Catherine "Cat" Keegan in Stillwater. A former homecoming queen, with a charm that has sharpened over the years, Cat maintains decades of old grudges and regrets. But she's deeply loyal to her husband, Ted, and she has spent years convincing herself that the things she and her husband do to protect the town's many secrets are justified.

O'Brien, recognized for his turn as Tom Rendon in the acclaimed drama Halt and Catch Fire, is cast as Ted. The character description reveals that Ted's a father, farmer, and military veteran who has spent his life following orders and keeping secrets. Now a deputy in Stillwater, it's up to him to enforce the town's strict policies, which sometimes get violent. All the while, he's hiding a secret that threatens to destroy his family.

Tomlinson played Judy Warren, the daughter of Ed and Lorraine Warren, in the most recent Conjuring film, while Hardy played Tony Spera, Judy's love interest. The actors may well share scenes again in Stillwater, in which she has the role of Laura Quinn, Cat's spirited younger sister who is a single mother. It's teased that the character is faced with a choice that could change her life and the town forever.

Stillwater hails from veteran television producer Greg Berlanti, known for The CW’s Arrowverse, and Carly Wray, who previously worked as a writer and producer on Westworld and Watchmen. Berlanti and Wray also co-wrote the pilot. The project is produced by Warner Bros. Television, Berlanti Productions, Skybound Entertainment, and Amazon MGM Studios. A release date is so far unknown, albeit more casting announcements are expected.
