Police tighten security at Najib's residence amid return speculation

Translate

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have tightened security along the access road to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's residence in Jalan Langgak Duta here, amid speculation that he could return home this afternoon under a house arrest order.

Sentul police chief Assistant Commissioner Anuar Bakri Abdul Salam said the preparations were precautionary, although police had yet to receive specific information on the matter.

"We have made preparations for security and surveillance along the access road to Datuk Seri Najib's residence since this morning.

"So far, we have not received any precise information. However, we are prepared for any eventuality," he told reporters.

Anuar Bakri said police had put up police cordons to prevent unauthorised people from approaching the residence.

Police began monitoring the access road at 10.30am.

More than 50 police officers and personnel were seen along the road as of 11.30am.

Police also deployed patrol cars and a mobile van, and set up two tents for operational and security purposes.

Media personnel covering the developments were instructed to remain outside the police cordon, preventing them from approaching the residence.

Almost all senior officers from the Sentul police headquarters were also seen at the location.
