5 Years Later, The MCU's Young Avengers Tease Is Officially Paying Off This Month

This has allowed Lewis to explore a vast array of films, TV shows, books, comic books, and games from across the mainstream world of pop culture, reflecting his lifelong love of all media and typifying his experience in the world of fiction storytelling. To top this off, Lewis graduated from Northumbria University with First Class Honours in Film & TV Studies, truly exemplifying his experience in the medium.

This month, the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Young Avengers teases, which began five years ago, will finally pay off. Since 2021, Marvel Studios has been slowly introducing various potential Young Avengers members into its shared universe. WandaVision was the first show to do this via the debuts of the Scarlet Witch's twin sons, Billy and Tommy Maximoff. However, the end of the show revealed that Billy and Tommy were never real, leading to more secure characters like Eli Bradley, aka Patriot, in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier or Kid Loki in Loki season 1.

Other characters included in MCU TV shows that could be Young Avengers members include Ms. Marvel, Kate Bishop, and Ironheart, to name but a few. The former two were actually part of a much more overt tease at the Young Avengers' MCU formation. In 2023's The Marvels, Ms. Marvel sought out Kate Bishop with the intention of starting a new team of superheroes, with these two being joined by Ant-Man's daughter, Cassie, as the first three members. Agatha All Along then further teased another member, with Billy Maximoff's soul inhabiting the body of William Kaplan.

Now, after five years of teases like this, both overt and subtle, the Marvel Cinematic Universe will complete the potential lineup of Young Avengers. Marvel's next TV show, VisionQuest, releases on October 13 and stars Paul Bettany as the titular android who will seek to regain his humanity after regaining his memories in WandaVision's final episode. Hidden within VisionQuest's cast is the final member of the MCU's Young Avengers, with the show's marketing proving that the teases will indeed pay off.

VisionQuest Will Debut The MCU's Final Young Avenger

Ruaridh Mollica is part of VisionQuest's cast and will be playing Tommy Shepherd. Tommy, like Billy Kaplan before him, will be reborn with the soul of a Maximoff twin inhabiting his body. The trailers for VisionQuest have confirmed as much, with Tommy playing a key role in the show's father-son-themed story. Moreover, the trailers highlight Tommy's super speed, officially bringing him to the MCU in all his glory after Billy gained magic powers in Agatha All Along.

2021 began these teases with Billy and Tommy, with VisionQuest closing that loop and bringing the Young Avengers lineup full circle. Undoubtedly, VisionQuest will position Tommy as a future MCU hero, just as Agatha All Along did with Billy. What's more, Agatha All Along ended with Billy actively looking for Tommy, teeing up a potential reunion between the twins in VisionQuest. Even if this does not happen, though, the MCU's Young Avengers hints that began five years ago will be completed when Tommy Maximoff speeds onto screens.

Will An MCU Young Avengers Project Ever Happen?

Naturally, VisionQuest's debut of the final possible Young Avenger raises the question of whether a project centered on the team will ever happen. Basing speculation on the aforementioned final scene in The Marvels, it would be easy to say that a Young Avengers project is coming sooner rather than later; a major MCU movie has showcased two young characters forming a new group, with other projects surrounding it, like Agatha All Along and VisionQuest, introducing possible members.

All that being said, there has been frustratingly little in the way of genuine updates from Marvel Studios' creatives. Speculatively, there have been rumors that the Young Avengers will appear in one or both of the upcoming Avengers movies. Again, though, no one at Marvel Studios has confirmed this, and no credible outlets have reported it as true. At this point, the MCU's Young Avengers seems somewhat far off, but VisionQuest's completion of the member teases could reignite hopes going forward.
