Netflix subscribers have one of the streaming service's biggest releases of 2026 to look forward to this weekend as we head further into October, and it comes with many beloved stars. On last weekend's Netflix movie recommendations, I explored why viewers should check out movies like Robert Pattinson's Twilight, Mike Flanagan's horror Hush, and Matt Damon's spy thriller Jason Bourne.
Out of those three movies, only one is currently trending on Netflix in the United States. That would be Pattinson's Twilight, one of the most popular book adaptations ever, which started a major vampire franchise and led to the genre trending in theaters and on the small screen. Twilight is currently the 10th most-watched movie on Netflix in the US.
Both Twilight and Hush were put among the Netflix movie recommendations due to their timely connections to Primetime and Prime Video's Carrie series, but also because they are perfect for Halloween month. That said, when looking at this weekend's roster of Netflix movies, I made changes. This time around, there is only one horror-like entry on the list.

It also comes with a unique twist that should speak to a wider number of Netflix subscribers. The Netflix movie recommendations are made whole by an animated franchise starter that will provide a very different type of adventure compared to the other two films, and the latest major Netflix Original movie, a star-studded thriller. Check out the best movies on Netflix below:
3 Ice Age (2002)
First up is the most different entry on the list, which is the animated Ice Age. The entire franchise has come to Netflix as part of an unprecedented deal between Disney and the streaming service. All five Ice Age movies are not only available on Netflix, but they are also on the streamer's Top 10 Movies chart in the United States. Subscribers should then start their binge on the first movie.
Ice Age does a remarkable job of setting up the franchise's world, filling it with vibrant colors, charismatic characters, and noteworthy vocal performances from actors like Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, and Denis Leary. Ice Age follows Manny, a woolly mammoth, Sid, a ground sloth, and Diego, a smilodon, as they band together to return a human baby to its tribe in the middle of the ice age.
2 Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2016)
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies arrived on Netflix on October 6, making this the first weekend many viewers will be able to watch the zombie movie for the first time. As its title suggests, this is a unique genre entry. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies mixes Jane Austen's iconic 1813 novel, Pride and Prejudice, with zombie elements and a lot of bloody fun thrown into the mix.
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies stars Lily James as Elizabeth Bennet, with Sam Riley as Mr. Darcy. The zombie movie also features stars like Matt Smith, Jack Huston, Charles Dance, Lena Headey, Suki Waterhouse, and more. The story follows the Bennet sisters as skilled zombie hunters, exploring what a zombie-ridden 19th century England looks like. This is a fun entry for the Halloween watch list.
1 Animals (2026)
Finally, the best movie to watch on Netflix this weekend is one of the streamer's biggest releases of 2026. That would be the Ben Affleck thriller Animals, which arrived on Netflix this Friday, October 9. Affleck stars in the movie as Mark Kimball, a Los Angeles mayoral candidate, whose son is kidnapped, forcing him to confront a dark side of himself as the deadline to deliver the ransom money looms closer.
Affleck is the main star, the director, a co-writer, and an executive producer on Netflix's Animals. The new R-rated thriller also features names like Kerry Washington, Steven Yeun, Gillian Anderson, and Ray Fisher. Earlier this year, Affleck and Yeun were both in The Rip, the action thriller that topped Netflix's charts. Animals has the potential to do the same, so you don't want to miss out on Netflix's likely next global sensation this weekend.
