Selangor allocates RM100,000 to help wives and children wronged in maintenance issues

SHAH ALAM, Sept 30 — The Selangor state government has allocated RM100,000 for the implementation of the Selangor Rahmah Maintainence Assistance Programme 2026 to strengthen social protection and welfare for women and children who have been wronged due to syariah judgement debtors.

Selangor Women’s Development and Community Welfare Committee chairman Anfaal Saari said that the temporary financial assistance is estimated to benefit up to 50 affected families while the law enforcement process is carried out.

He said the one-off assistance was distributed according to the rates set by the Family Support Division (BSK) of the Selangor Syariah Judiciary Department (JAKESS) at RM2,000 for the wife and RM1,000 for each child.

“This initiative is implemented through JAKESS to assist women and children who have a maintenance order from the Syariah Court but fail to receive payment from the judgement debtor.

“The state government wishes to emphasise that the main narrative of the Rahmah Maintainence Assistance is to provide temporary relief to women and children who have been wronged, and not as a substitute for the obligation of those who are supposed to provide alimony,” he said in a statement today.

Anfaal said the eligibility requirements and criteria are that the applicant must be a Muslim and reside in Selangor, with a household income below RM5,000 per month, and have a Syariah Court maintenance order that is still in effect but has been neglected or failed to be paid by the debtor.

In addition, applicants must meet the requirements and criteria set out in the Guidelines for the Disbursement of Advances and Alimony Assistance under the Family Support Division (BSK), Department of Syariah Judiciary Malaysia (JKSM).

He said any individual who meets the eligibility criteria can submit an application by directly visiting the JAKESS office through BSK to check their eligibility and submit the application form.

“The state government remains vigilant in ensuring the protection of women’s and children’s welfare rights continues to be upheld and not neglected in this state.

“In this regard, the state government urges all ex-husbands and fathers not to let go and to fully take responsibility in fulfilling the maintenance ordered by the Syariah Court for the sake of the children’s livelihood and future,” he also said. — Bernama
