Lululemon is getting a high-fashion makeover — with a little help from Ganni and a whole lot of ’80s nostalgia.

The activewear giant has teamed up with the Copenhagen-based fashion label on a 22-piece collection inspired by the dance films of the 1980s, complete with leg warmers, boleros and headbands. Launching Oct. 15, the collaboration blends Lululemon’s technical fabrics and athletic silhouettes with Ganni’s playful Scandinavian aesthetic, bringing leopard prints, ruffled trims and bold colors to workout staples.

And who better to front the campaign than Jennifer Beals? The actress, who famously starred as aspiring dancer Alex Owens in the 1983 classic “Flashdance,” appears alongside singer and dancer METTE in the collection’s “Joy Is a Power Move” campaign.

Shot in a dance studio, the accompanying short film sees the two performers channeling the energy of ’80s dance movies, blurring the lines between rehearsal and performance.

“80s dance movies have been part of my life since I was a child, so they felt like such a natural starting point,” said Ganni creative director Ditte Reffstrup in a statement. “I’ve always been drawn to the energy, determination and sense of freedom in those films, and the way dance becomes such a powerful form of self-expression.”

The collection puts a Ganni spin on some of Lululemon’s most recognizable designs, including its popular Define Jacket. The lineup also features pieces made with Lululemon’s proprietary Nulu and Softstreme fabrics, designed for comfort and flexibility, alongside dance-inspired accessories that wouldn’t look out of place in an ’80s aerobics class.

For Reffstrup, the collaboration offered an opportunity to bring Ganni’s signature eccentricity to performance wear. “For the collection, we brought that 80s dance energy into the colours and details, then mixed it with Ganni’s signatures like leopard and frills, and Lululemon’s world of movement,” she said.

Beals, meanwhile, said the campaign’s emphasis on movement and self-expression resonated with her.

“What an honor it is to be part of a campaign that promotes connecting to joy through movement as an integral part of life,” the actress said. “As a longtime Lululemon and Ganni customer, I am so thrilled to be invited to be a small part of this incredible collaboration.”

Mette, who has worked as a dancer and recording artist, described the experience of sharing the screen with Beals as a full-circle moment. “Getting to know and admire Jennifer and share a dance with her to my music felt like a piece of that dream coming to life,” she said.

The Ganni x Lululemon collection will be available beginning Oct. 15 at lululemon.com and ganni.com, as well as select retail stores across North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific.
