Following Beyer Leverkusen’s reported interest in Mofokeng in recent weeks, the German publication Fussbal News has revealed that fellow Bundesliga club SC Freiburg have joined the fray.

The outlet further revealed that Dutch club AZ Alkmaar are in the mix.

SC FREIBURG INTEREST IN RELEBOHILE MOFOKENG

“German Bundesliga sides Bayer Leverkusen and SC Freiburg are reportedly monitoring the 22-year-old South African international, who currently plays for Royale Union Saint-Gilloise,” the report said.

The Sharpeville-born star Mofokeng has enjoyed a dream start in Europe since leaving the Betway Premiership as the Player of the Season.

The 22-year-old winger completed a €3.5 million move to Belgian Pro League champions Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in July 2026 after an outstanding final season with league champions Orlando Pirates.

He first announced himself in Belgium with a decisive penalty on his debut against Club Brugge to help Union SG win the Belgian Super Cup. He has since continued to impress under coach David Hubert, showing his versatility in attacking positions.

PRESIDENT YAMA 2K MAKING HIS MARK IN EUROPE

Mofokeng has delivered five goals and four assists in his first 15 appearances for the Belgian outfit.

His impressive start has also extended to the continent, where he scored on his UEFA Europa League debut against Viktoria Plzeň.

To cap it all, Mofokeng earned a nomination for the Jupiler Pro League Player of the Month award for October.

RELEBOHILE MOFOKENG SHINES FOR BAFANA BAFANA

Mofokeng has also carried his impressive club form into international football, playing a leading role in South Africa’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

One of his standout performances came in an important away qualifier against Eritrea, where he scored twice to help Bafana Bafana secure a crucial victory.

The brace further underlined his growing importance to the national team, with the 22-year-old becoming an influential figure in South Africa’s attack.

His performances for both club and country have strengthened his reputation as one of the country’s most exciting attacking talents.
