Kohli closes in on Gill at the top of men's ODI batters' rankings

Virat Kohli has gone up a spot to second, just behind his captain Shubman Gill, in the ICC's rankings for men's ODI batters. Kohli's jump came after his record 55th century in the format, an unbeaten 139 off 88 balls studded with nine sixes, that gave India an eight-wicket win over West Indies in the first match of the series.
Kohli's rating of 796 is just behind Gill's 816, which also got a boost as he scored his tenth ODI century in the same game. The two are followed by Daryl Mitchell (794) at third and Rohit Sharma (719) at fourth.
That day (September 27) - had as many as six centuries in men's ODIs - a record too - with Temba Bavuma, David Miller, Justin Greaves and Tom Banton also reaching three figures in games around the world.
Just before that, Sri Lanka had levelled three-ODI series against England (which they lost 2-1 eventually), and the biggest gainer from that series was Kusal Mendis after his 121 off 100 balls. The innings helped him hop three places to a career-best seventh.
There is only one England batter in the top ten - Joe Root, at ninth. Captain Harry Brook is at 11th after going up a spot following his 77 in the final ODI, which England won by a massive 223 runs.
Bavuma went up ten places to 32nd and Miller is now 41st. Banton, meanwhile, has gone up a whopping 333 places, but is still 83rd after ten ODI appearances.
Among bowlers, South Africa's Keshav Maharaj gained three places to third after he took 2 for 54 and 4 for 20 against Australia.
Kuldeep Yadav marked his return to ODIs with a match-winning 4 for 40 that helped him rise four spots to fifth.
Josh Hazlewood has returned to the top ten with his four wickets in the first two ODIs; he is up five places to tenth.
