ABC Radio National's Top 100 Australian Books countdown has delivered up a list of beloved homegrown books — and expanded to-be-read stacks around the nation.

It was a fascinating snapshot of Australian literature, with titles from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries making the cut.

With more than 280,000 votes counted, Tim Winton's 1991 classic, Cloudstreet, came out on top.

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, Boy Swallows Universe by Trent Dalton, Burial Rites by Hannah Kent and A Fortunate Life by AB Facey rounded out the top five.

Australia clearly loves these books — but can you place them on a timeline?
