U-20 WWC: Falconets Arrive Katowice For Spain Showdown

Nigeria’s Falconets arrived in Katowice on Thursday as preparations entered the final phase ahead of the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland.

The team departed their training base in Trzebnica and checked into the Novotel Katowice Centrum ahead of their opening Group F clash with Spain on Monday.

The Falconets spent 10 days in Trzebnica, where head coach Moses Aduku and his technical crew worked extensively on the team’s tactical organisation, technical execution, physical conditioning and overall cohesion.

The training camp also allowed the players to acclimatise to conditions in Poland and improve their match fitness before the start of the tournament.

As part of their preparations, the Falconets played two international friendly matches against Poland and Korea Republic.

Aduku’s side defeated hosts Poland 1-0 last Friday, with Mary Mamudu scoring the winning goal in the first half.

They followed up with a 1-1 draw against Korea Republic on Tuesday in their final warm-up game, with Mamudu once again finding the net.

The two friendlies gave the technical crew the opportunity to assess the squad against different opposition and fine-tune their plans for the World Cup.

With the Trzebnica phase of their preparations now completed, attention has shifted to Katowice as the Falconets gear up for their opening encounter against Spain.

Nigeria are drawn in Group F alongside Spain, China PR and New Caledonia.

After facing Spain on Monday, the Falconets will take on China PR on September 10 before rounding off their group-stage campaign against New Caledonia on September 13.
