Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs took down 5.15 million pieces of negative content across social media platforms between October 2024 and Sept. 11, 2026.

"The ministry handled 5.15 million pieces of negative content from October 2024 to September 11, 2026, which includes over 4 million online gambling posts," Communication and Digital Affairs Minister Meutya Hafid said at the Bali Tech Week 2026 event in Sanur, Denpasar, Bali, on Monday.

Hafid noted that taking down negative content forms part of government efforts to protect the public from digital space harms and rapid digitalization.

She highlighted the implementation of biometric verification for new SIM cards aimed at protecting telecommunications user data, commending cellular providers that adopted the procedure.

"As of today, 31.1 million users have completed biometric verification. That is rapid progress, and we will continue to encourage operators to expand this beyond new SIM cards so existing users can also use biometric verification to secure their data," the minister added.

Hafid invited stakeholders to reflect on progress as the Prabowo Subianto–Gibran Rakabuming Raka administration marks its two-year anniversary on Oct. 20, 2026.

She emphasized that infrastructure development, industry growth, digital skills upgrading, and user protection must advance together to deliver tangible results.

Hafid expressed hope that the technology conference would serve as a collaborative platform to build trust, unlock investment opportunities, and expand digital economic benefits.

Organized by the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs, Bali Tech Week 2026 runs from Oct. 19 to 23, targeting over 4,000 participants from more than 30 countries.

The conference connects government officials, industry leaders, founders, investors, and tech communities to foster collaboration and business partnerships.
