Serie A | Udinese 0-2 Milan: Pulisic and Hutchinson celebrate in Udine

Milan took all three points with Christian Pulisic and the first Omari Hutchinson goal for the club, but sent Udinese spiralling with a sixth consecutive defeat.
The mood was dire in both camps going into this match. The Rossoneri had to shake off Thursday’s 3-0 Europa League defeat at Bournemouth, a game where Mike Maignan saw red, with fresh injuries to Adrien Rabiot, Diego Moreira and Mario Gila joining Samuel Chukwueze, Matteo Gabbia, Alexis Saelemaekers and Pietro Terracciano on the absentee list.
The Friulani lost five Serie A games in a row, most recently 3-0 at home to relegation candidates Lecce. Oumar Solet, David Alaba, Idrissa Gueye, Vakoun Bayo and Alessandro Zanoli missed out, while Nicolò Zaniolo returned to the bench after five weeks.

Milan took the lead almost immediately, as Luka Modric smartly took a free kick quickly over the top, Mergim Vojvoda was keeping Christian Pulisic onside, who hooked it down and beat Maduka Okoye one-on-one.

Ardon Jashari gave it away cheaply to Hassane Kamara, who surged forward for a snapshot that Mike Maignan palmed round the base of the near post.
Davide Bartesaghi blasted wide after running onto a through ball, then Fikayo Tomori couldn’t make the most of a Pulisic pull-back, while Maignan spilled the ferocious Vojvoda strike from distance.
Matteo Palma went to shrug Goncalo Ramos off and struck him in the face, but it was insufficient for a VAR review.

Milan had a huge chance to double their lead on 40 minutes, as it was rolled across from the right by Fikayo Tomori, but both Pulisic and Bartesaghi went for it and somehow failed to tap in from six yards.
Jesper Karlstrom and Christian Kabasele had attempts from distance, but Bartesaghi’s first touch on a Pulisic pass was not perfect, allowing James Abankwah to make the decisive block.

Bartesaghi won the ball back off Abankwah with a sliding tackle and immediately went on the counter, setting up Pulisic to force an Okoye save at the near post.
Zaniolo made his comeback, but Milan doubled their lead when Omari Hutchinson laid it off for Jashari’s daisy-cutter from the D, which Okoye parried meekly into the path of the former Nottingham Forest winger. It was Hutchinson’s first goal in the Rossoneri jersey.

Keinan Davis blasted a finish across the face of goal from the by-line when he should’ve tried a cross, while Okoye kept the scoreline down by palming a Goncalo Ramos effort onto the crossbar from close range after the Pulisic attempt was deflected into his path.
Maignan did have to make a tricky save on the Davis volley from six yards on a set play, but Arizala and Okoye struggled to prevent Ruben Loftus-Cheek turning in a Bartesaghi cross at the back post.
Alphadjo Cisse came off the bench and within 60 seconds had cut inside to bend a right-foot finish just wide. Palma made a decisive sliding tackle on Loftus-Cheek, but the English midfielder sustained an injury during that move.
