AFCON 2027Q: Usor Credits Simon For Spectacular Goal Against Madagascar

Moses Usor has revealed that advice from fellow Super Eagles winger Moses Simon inspired him to take the risk that produced his spectacular winning goal in Nigeria’s 2-1 victory over Madagascar in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The LASK of Austria winger came off the bench and delivered the decisive moment in a tightly contested encounter, showcasing his pace and confidence to secure all three points for Nigeria.

Usor Credits Simon For His Confidence

Usor received the ball inside Nigeria’s half before driving forward, beating two defenders with his pace and skill before firing a superb effort into the net.

The 24-year-old said Simon’s words during the warm-up gave him the confidence to express himself and take on defenders.

“I was warming up with Moses Simon when they called me, and we went in together. He advised me to just play my game and be myself,” Usor told the Super Eagles media.

“He said if you have the ball and you want to go one-on-one, you can take the risk. He gave me the confidence to play the game.

“I went in with the mentality of taking risks and showing what I can do. It’s still a surprise to me. I still feel it is a dream, playing at this level. It is still like a dream to me.

“I was like, ‘Is this me?’ After my goal, I went down on my knees to pray. I really thank God for it.”

Delighted To Fulfil Super Eagles Dream

The winger also expressed his joy at finally making his long-awaited Super Eagles debut, especially with his family present to witness the occasion.

“It was a different feeling because my family were also there. I was really happy seeing everyone there,” Usor said.

“This is something I have always dreamt of. It’s a good feeling being in camp with these players. I have always dreamt of this moment.

“It’s different playing alongside Lookman, Bassey and the others.”

Ready To Keep Giving His Best

Following his impressive introduction, Usor has pledged to continue working hard whenever he is given the opportunity to represent Nigeria.

“I will always give my best whenever I’m on the pitch and contribute to the attack. I will do my best whenever I’m on the pitch and defend the badge,” added the tricky winger.

“That is very important because I know Nigerians will be expecting more from me, and I will continue to give my best for the team.”
