Former Premier League Star Turns Uber Driver

Translate

Former Premier League star Hugo Porfirio has swapped beating full-backs to beating red lights in a new career as an Uber driver.

Porfirio spent the 1996/97 season on loan at West Ham and made 23 appearances for the Irons.

He managed four goals while at the Boleyn Ground before heading back to Sporting Lisbon, as reported by talkSPORT.

He was back in England a couple of years later with Nottingham Forest.

That proved to be a far less successful spell than his one at West Ham.

Porfirio made nine appearances for the Hammers and scored a single goal.

His goals while playing for the Irons included strikes against Chelsea and Blackburn Rovers.

And in the cup, strikes came in games versus Forest and Wrexham.

His one solitary goal for Forest was in a match against Sheffield Wednesday.

On the international stage, the winger shared the pitch with Luis Figo and Vitor Baia.

He ended his playing days with Al-Nassr well before they became Cristiano Ronaldo’s home in 2008.

And after briefly being a scout for Sporting, he has been spotted as an Uber driver in Portugal.

Portuguese influencer Andre Ramalho publicly unmasked the 53-year-old in a viral video.

“We had a ten-minute walk to make, but we were late and tired, so decided to call an Uber.

“We were amazed by the guy driving the car. How could he be doing something so ordinary?

“This is the fella who played at Euro 96, and played alongside Rui Costa, Luis Figo and Vitor Baia.

“He is the coolest guy of all time, and a great bloke as well.

“He also drove very well. Footballers aren’t usually known as good drivers!”

And his daughter, Madalena, also paid tribute to him, with Ramalho’s post received thousands of likes on Instagram.

She said: “My father is a machine.”

The Lisbon-born star has been totally missing from the public spotlight since leaving his scouting role with Sporting in 2013.
