Kaizer Motaung Jr replies to reports linking Mngqithi with Chiefs job

Translate

Kaizer Chiefs sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr has rubbished reports claiming the club is in talks with Manqoba Mngqithi over the vacant coaching position.

Several reports have linked Mngqithi with a move to Amakhosi after the 55-year-old parted ways with Tanzanian giants Young Africans last week.

On X, user @InnocentKhabz claimed that talks between Mngqithi and Chiefs were ongoing. However, Motaung Jr responded directly to the post, dismissing the claims as “completely lies.”

The latest reports come days after Amakhosi were eliminated from the CAF Confederation Cup, raising further questions about the future of head coach Fernando Da Cruz.

There had been speculation about Da Cruz’s position following the disappointing continental campaign. Motaung Jr, however, issued a statement reaffirming the club’s support for the coach.

Mngqithi linked to Chiefs once again

Meanwhile, Mngqithi is currently a free agent following his departure from Young Africans.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows coach has previously revealed that Chiefs were interested in appointing him during his time at Chloorkop.

“Kaizer Chiefs did have interest in me. But someone blocked the move and I know who it is,” Mngqithi said.

“I have had very cordial talks with Chiefs, even with Kaizer Motaung Sn. It is not a lie. But it never reached any fruition because there are people who block these moves.”

The experienced coach added that he was not concerned about the individual who allegedly prevented the move from happening.

“I’m fortunate to know that the person who blocked it I am not even worried about. But it’s true there was interest recently,” he continued.

Despite Mngqithi’s availability and his previous admission of interest from the Soweto giants, Motaung Jr’s response has cast doubt on reports suggesting that the club is currently negotiating with the coach.

Mngqithi to Chiefs looks unlikely given Amakhosi management are backing Da Cruz.
