Mustafizur Rahman will play for Melbourne Renegades in the BBL  •  Associated Press

The 31-year-old has played 331 T20 matches around the world, taking 423 wickets, but has never played in the BBL previously. But after Renegades lost veteran left-arm seamer Jason Behrendorff for the season to a shoulder injury, they have signed Mustafizur in his place to add some variety to the attack.

Mustafizur won't be available for Renegades' opening match against Perth Scorchers in Chennai owing to his commitments in the ILT20, but was excited to play at the MCG with Renegades set to face Sydney Sixers there on January 1 and Melbourne Stars on January 4.

"I am looking forward to playing in the BBL for the first time with the Melbourne Renegades," Mustafizur said in a club statement. "It will be special to play at the MCG as my home ground and I'm excited to join my team-mates and bring my experience to the squad."

New Renegades coach Luke Ronchi was thrilled to add Mustafizur to his squad alongside his other international signings - Jonny Bairstow and Michael Bracewell.

"Mustafizur is a proven match-winner in T20 cricket all over the world," Ronchi said. "His ability to take wickets in both the powerplay and at the death is exactly what we wanted in our attack."
