Final Fantasy 9 has to be one of the most requested games to be remade of all time. After seeing the incredible work Square Enix has done with the Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy, it isn't terribly surprising to see fans wish the same for its equally beloved successor. FF9 proved to be an emotionally mature return to a traditional fantasy setting that resonated deeply with fans and even has some of the best characters in the entire series, so a remake, or really any new project, feels necessary at this point.

Well, with all the recent Final Fantasy 9 remake rumors running rampant online, it's easy to be led to believe that it may actually happen. However, recent comments from Square Enix's top brass have all but condemned a remake, saying that it would need to be even bigger than Final Fantasy 7's, and that seems near-impossible to make. Fortunately, Final Fantasy 9 is still getting new projects, albeit not the remake fans are hoping for, including the upcoming Reclusion, which is set to arrive next month.

Final Fantasy 9 Vivi

Recently, Final Fantasy 9 celebrated its 25th anniversary, a momentous occasion for a brilliant game. Square Enix pulled out all the stops, releasing a handful of genuinely great merchandise that collectors with the disposable income to afford it almost surely snapped up. Of course, many were hoping the anniversary would have been used to announce a more significant project or even a remaster of sorts, but that never transpired.

Lost amongst the shuffle was a new Final Fantasy 9 25th anniversary project that's actually launching long after the celebrations have ended. Titled Reclusion, the project is a jigsaw puzzle based on one of FF9's most iconic characters, Kuja. The legendary antagonist is depicted in the puzzle alongside the Silver Dragon, with the two standing side by side within the Lifa Tree. It is great to see Final Fantasy 9 continue to get unique works of art, especially in such an interactive form.

The puzzle, which joins an ever-growing list of other Final Fantasy 9 jigsaw puzzles, features 1,000 pieces and can be pre-ordered from the official Square Enix website. It will set you back $39.99, which is definitely veering more on the expensive side for a jigsaw puzzle, and is set to be released in October. Of course, as with all of the 25th anniversary products, it is only worth picking up if it's something that genuinely interests you, as $40 is a lot of money for an impulse buy.

The Reclusion jigsaw puzzle was scheduled to be released in September, but that has obviously come and gone. Square Enix has since updated the official store listing for the Final Fantasy 9 puzzle to reflect the new release date. However, it is worth noting that it could change once again, as there is still no specific date listed beyond the month. Regardless, it's exciting to see yet another great piece of Final Fantasy 9 merchandise be nearly in the hands of fans, especially one as beautiful as the Reclusion jigsaw puzzle.
