MCMC identifies accounts, individuals linked to viral stage performance insulting Rukun Negara

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has identified several social media accounts and people linked to a viral video of a stage performance that allegedly insults the institution of the Malay Rulers and the Rukun Negara.
In a statement today, MCMC said an initial review found that the recording originated from a stage performance in 2018 and had since resurfaced on social media.
"MCMC is also working with the police's Criminal Investigation Department to complete the investigation, including matters related to digital evidence," the statement read.
The public has been advised against speculating or spreading unverified information about individuals linked to the video to avoid disrupting the investigation.
Earlier, National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang urged police and MCMC to conduct an immediate and thorough investigation into the stage performance video and take appropriate action if any laws had been violated, taking into account all relevant legal provisions.
