‘Inspector Rishi 2’: Dravid Selvam and Deepika Venkatachalam join cast

Dravid Selvam and actor-social media influencer Deepika Venkatachalam have joined the cast of the Tamil horror web series ‘Inspector Rishi’ for its second season. Nandhini JS, the creator of the series, announced their addition on social media and shared her experience of working with the two actors.Taking to Instagram, Nandhini shared why she chose Deepika for an important role in the series. She revealed that she was initially unaware of Deepika’s popularity as a content creator and was impressed by her performances in ‘Kana Kaanum Kaalangal’ and ‘Uppu Puli Kaaram’.“When I cast Deepika for a significant role, I didn't know that she was a very popular content creator. I was looking for a talented, dark-skinned, Tamil-speaking actor, and when my AD showed some of Deepika's scenes from Kana Kaanum Kaalangal and Uppu Puli Kaaram, I really liked her work and signed her.

During the shoots, she worked extremely hard to give an authentic performance, along with memorising lengthy dialogues (and she had many, many difficult ones).

Nandhini JS praises Dravid Selvam's performance

Speaking about Dravid’s casting, Nandhini revealed that she was already a fan of the ‘Parithabangal’ team and its YouTube sketches. She said she was excited when Dravid visited her office but was initially unsure whether he would accept a supporting role with limited screen time.

She wrote, “I'm a big fan of the Parithabangal team and their YouTube sketches. When Dravid came to my office, I was excited to work with him, but was unsure if he would take up a supporting role with very less screen time. Dravid, being a true professional, didn't make the role feel small. In fact, his comedic performance turned out to be extremely entertaining, and his presence is so good for our show. Now that he is growing in his career, doing lead roles in movies, along with working as a writer for several projects, I wish him great success.

About the web series ‘Inspector Rishi’

Starring Naveen Chandra in the titular role, ‘Inspector Rishi’ premiered in March 2024. The series follows a police officer investigating a series of strange incidents in a remote village.Meanwhile, Dravid Selvam has also appeared in films such as ‘Dude’, ‘Idhayam Murali’ and ‘Drones’. He has also written dialogues for Suriya and Jithu Madhavan’s ‘Scene’, which was released in theatres on November 6.
