Fluence Energy (FLNC) rose 1.9% pre-market Wednesday after Swedish utility Vattenfall awarded the U.S. company a contract to develop a 254 MW/1 GWh battery storage facility in Germany.
The Brunsbüttel project, which will be built at the site of a Vattenfall nuclear power plant that is being decommissioned, is expected to be among the largest battery energy storage projects in Germany and represents Vattenfall’s largest battery project to date; it is scheduled to become operational by year-end 2028.
The energy storage system will use Fluence's (FLNC) Gridstack Pro 5000 platform, and the company will provide engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and long-term service support, helping ensure the facility operates at high performance throughout its entire lifetime.
"Having delivered more than 20 battery energy storage projects in Germany, Fluence is proud to be a leader in scaling battery storage as critical energy infrastructure in the country," Fluence Germany (FLNC) VP and Managing Director Julian Jansen said.
