Other Mommy is coming home.

Blumhouse's new R-rated horror movie has been a box office smash hit, going on to gross $108 million worldwide after being made on a reported production budget between $18 and $19 million. Jessica Chastain plays the dual roles of mother Ursula Martin and an evil entity who looks like her known as Other Mommy. Ursula attempts to protect her daughter from this nefarious force in the adaptation of Josh Malerman's 2024 novel Incidents Around the House.

Now, distributor Universal Pictures has announced that Other Mommy will be available to watch on digital platforms starting on November 10, including on Prime Video and Fandango at Home. About a month and a half later, on December 29, Universal Pictures Home Entertainment will release the movie in 4K and on Blu-ray.

When purchasing the horror film at participating retailers or buying it as physical media, there will be exclusive bonus content, including deleted and alternate scenes, behind-the-scenes looks at the special effects and performances, and the cast and filmmakers discussing the subversion of horror tropes. Check out the bonus features below:

  • DELETED AND ALTERNATE SCENES
    • Alternate Car Confrontation
    • Dancing at Grandma's
    • Checking Bela's Room
    • Taking a Bath
  • EFFECTING FEAR
    • An exploration of the ways special effects complemented each other to amplify the relentless tension, suspense, and fear driving the story.
  • A FAMILY IN PIECES
    • A behind-the-scenes look at the fractured family at the heart of the film and the standout performances that bring them to life.
  • BREAKING RULES WITH OTHER MOMMY
    • Cast and filmmakers discuss subverting horror tropes through Bela’s perspective and disrupting the expected cadence of the genre.

When the trailer started playing ahead of The Odyssey in July, Other Mommy quickly gained attention for the jump scare that happens when the titular character appears in a contorted position underneath a table. This set the stage for the box office success that occurred following the movie's theatrical debut on October 9.

Despite being a financial hit, the reviews have been largely negative. The film holds a 19% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes based on 100 reviews, along with a 48% audience score based on more than 1,000 verified ratings. In ScreenRant's Other Mommy review, Josh Bate gave the movie four out of 10 stars and wrote that "the audience immediately has all the answers to the film’s story, even before they’ve met a single character . . . Nothing is scary about Other Mommy, and only the film’s very first sequence is even slightly creepy."

Higher or Lower

Choose the movie with the higher Rotten Tomatoes score.

Chastain's performance is one area of the movie that has been praised, including the critics' consensus on Rotten Tomatoes declaring that "despite a valiant turn from Jessica Chastain as the spectral embodiment of a smothering parent, Other Mommy proves too silly for its intermittently effective jump scares to add up to a spooky whole."

For those who may have been dissuaded from seeing the movie in theaters due to the bad reviews, the digital release now provides an opportunity to watch at home through rental or purchase. A streaming release date has not been set yet, but when it is, the film is expected to go to Peacock since it is owned by NBCUniversal.

Other Mommy was directed by Rob Savage, with a script written by Nathan Elston, James Wan producing, and Malerman as an executive producer alongside Michael Clear, Judson Scott, and Ryan Lewis. In addition to Chastain and Clark, the cast includes Jay Duplass, Dichen Lachman, Arian Moayed, Karen Allen, Sean Kaufman, Adam Silver, and Alec Secăreanu.

Other Mommy makes its digital debut on November 10.
