Amy Poehler Leads Young Women Archaeologists Who Make An Important Discovery In Peacock’s ‘Dig’ Trailer

Peacock has unearthed the first trailer for its comedy Dig starring Amy Poehler and co-created by Michael Schur (The Good Place, Parks and Recreation). The 10-episode comedy series premieres on the streamer November 23.
“Everyone, listen up, because I’m only going to explain this once,” Poehler’s Elise tells her young field crew. “There are stray dogs everywhere. Do not feed the dogs, ever.”
Several of the troops on the archaeological site try to fight her command, but she cuts them off every time, no matter the excuse.
The series, which follows a team of dedicated archaeologists and less-dedicated college students spending their summer at the Grecian dig site when they unearth a rare artifact, is an adaptation of Kate Myers’ bestseller “Excavations.” Author Kate Myers is a co-executive producer.
Hugh Laurie’s British character Neville chimes in over the intercom to greet the excavation team on the dig site in Greece, where he describes himself as “the face of the archeological dig” but adds that Elise is “its beating heart.”
The male archaeologist then confesses he has some news to share with Elise: his retirement. But she points out that they’ve been down this path before. Sure enough, during what looks to be an announcement to the field crew, Neville pivots and says “Okay, I’ll stay one more year.”
Then, Elise and Geraldine Viswanathan’s character uncover an ornate-looking statuette in the ground, and they have a big choice to make about how to report the discovery. If they tell Neville, “he’ll get the credit like he always does.”
“But if we dig it up ourselves, you’ll get the credit,” Viswanathan says to Elise, who compares the scandal to Watergate, which the younger archaeologist says she’s read when Elise asks if she knows what the reference means.
“I have been wanting to take over this dig for a very long time,” Elise says at the end of the clip. “This may be our only shot.”
The trailer ends with Antonia Thomas, Fina Strazza, Viswanathan and Poehler’s characters maiming themselves for the cause. Pat Benatar’s “Heartbreaker” also backs the clip.
In addition to Laurie, Viswanathan, Thomas and Strazza, Kayvan Novak, Jon Pointing and Bonita Friedericy also appear. The trailer shows glimpses of guest stars Max Greenfield and Jason Mantzoukas. Brennan Lee Mulligan, Noma Dumezweni and Dan Bucatinsky will also guest star.
Dig is co-showrun by co-creator and executive producer Schur and executive producer J.J. Philbin. Poehler also serves as co-creator and executive producer in addition to starring as a series regular.
Still more executive producers include Morgan Sackett, Dean Holland, Kate Arend and Jordan Grief for Paper Kite, Dave Becky and David Miner for 3 Arts, Sharon Jackson for Ocean Avenue. Dig hails from Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, and it is produced by Fremulon, Paper Kite, Duck Duck Films, Dunshire, 3 Arts and Ocean Avenue.
