Christina Applegate Tells MS Community She’s Still ‘Your Warrior’ After Misdiagnosis

Translate

"I still feel like part of this community. No matter what, I love you," the actress said on the latest episode of her podcast, MeSsy

Christina Applegate said she would still be a “warrior” for people with multiple sclerosis after revealing that she’d been misdiagnosed with the autoimmune disorder.

“Even though I don’t have this disease, I have fallen in love with everyone that we know, our listeners, our friends that have MS,” Applegate said on the new episode of MeSsy, the MS-focused podcast she started in 2024 with Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who does have MS.

“I’m still your warrior,” Applegate continued, “and I’m still going to speak out on your behalf forever and ever. I still feel like pat of this community. No matter what, I love you.”

Applegate revealed her misdiagnosis on MeSsy last week, though she learned about her misdiagnosis earlier this year. She had taken a leave of absence from the show so she could process the news, which she called a “mindfuck.” That episode also featured an interview with a doctor, who noted that MS misdiagnoses are “fairly common,” since there’s no single binary MS test to determine whether a patient definitely has the disorder.

One of the most frustrating parts of the misdiagnosis, Applegate said, was that she’s still grappling with the same symptoms, which no longer have an explanation. She also said that, since the misdiagnosis, her symptoms have “gotten worse.”

Furthermore, Applegate expressed concern that she had accidentally misrepresented herself to people with MS. “It’s weird because I feel like I let everybody down,” Applegate said. “It’s this weird feeling because I became this — you [Sigler] and I, the poster children for MS. And everything I was doing. I had a reason. I had a fucking reason as to why my day sucked every day. And now I don’t have a reason and it’s very unnerving and it’s very confusing for me.”
