Cops arrest 5 Orang Asli during ops at Tasek Bera forest reserve

Police arrested five Orang Asli suspected of obstructing enforcement personnel from carrying out their duties during an operation at the Tasek Bera Conservation Forest Reserve in Bera yesterday.

Bera police chief Zulkiflee Nazir said the incident occurred at about 10am when the Pahang state enforcement unit carried out an enforcement operation under the National Forestry Act 1984.

The unit was supported by personnel from other agencies, including the forestry department, the Bera district and land office, and the General Operations Force.

Zulkiflee said a group of individuals was found to have set up a blockade and provoked the enforcement team.

“Police arrested a man and four women, aged in their 30s to 60s, to assist in the investigation under Section 186 of the Penal Code,” he said in a statement.

Several video clips of the incident had gone viral on social media, drawing reaction from the public.

Zulkiflee advised the public not to disseminate unverified information that could cause misunderstanding and disrupt public order.
