Candace Cameron Bure Details Marriage Revelation on Special Forces

Collin Gosselin, Candace Cameron Bure and More Joining ‘Special Forces’ Season 5
Candace Cameron Bure was a full house of tears.
The Fuller House alum admitted that participating on Fox’s Special Forces: World's Toughest Test made her realize that she isn’t a leader in her daily life—including in her 20-year marriage to husband Valeri Bure.
“It just was a disappointment,” Candace said through tears in a preview clip from the Oct. 15 episode shared by Us Weekly. “Honestly, the more I keep thinking about this, I’m really good at taking directions.”
“I’ve been taking direction my whole life just being a kid actor,” she added. “And then I met my husband at 18 and he was 20. And my husband leads. He’s a professional athlete and he’s an Olympian.”
And the 50-year-old admitted that while she lives “with an alpha” she considers herself “a beta.”
“He does everything for me,” she continued, wiping away her tears, noting that her husband does so “‘cause he’s a good leader.”
Candace—who shares kids Natasha, 28, Lev, 26, and Maksim, 24, with Valeri—didn’t “feel confident” in her voice on the show and understood it was a change she would have to make in herself if she did want to become a leader both on Special Forces and in her everyday life.
“I do have a spirit in me and so at this age, I really wanted to see if I could push it,” she said. “I want to step up.”

And while participating on the Fox series taught her some important lessons about herself, there were some trials and tribulations along the way.
“I was ready to quit the show. I was ready to quit. I was like, ‘I don’t know if I want to keep going,'” she told Us Weekly in September. “It was physically the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life—and yet it was exciting, but brutal.”
During her time in the jungle, Candace also found that she “was not as good of a teammate” as she hoped she’d be.
“You are fighting for your life out there and when you get put in those situations, it’s fight or flight. You either stand up to it or you want to run. That’s the emotional reaction that most people have,” she explained. “I realize I’m a flyer.”

It felt especially disappointing for the Full House alum as it meant her fear got the best of her and she couldn’t be there for her team. Ultimately though, it helped her understand that she needed to be “a better teammate” in every aspect of her life.
“I could apply that at home with my husband, as a mom to my kids and as a friend to my friends’ relationships,” she said. “So, I’m glad that I did the show.”
