EastEnders' Kat makes new emotional breakthrough in Zoe death aftermath

EastEnders’ Kat Moon bravely enters a new phase of her grief next week, as she summons the courage to clear out Zoe Slater’s old room. Will letting go of Zoe’s belongings help Kat to cope with her daughter’s death?

Zoe died suddenly back in September after sustaining a head injury, and heartbreakingly she was found dead by Kat the next morning. In the initial aftermath, Kat struggled to cope and isolated herself from her family, including husband Alfie – but is now leaning into the support of her loved ones.

"Zoe’s room has been frozen in time since she died," says our Walford insider. "While in the depths of her grief, Kat was sleeping in there.

"It’s the place where Zoe died and has sadly become a museum of her life, not to mention a terrible reminder of what happened. Now, the only way forward for Kat is to sort through the bedroom."

Kat finds the strength to collect her daughter’s most treasured possessions in next week’s scenes and decides that the most deserving recipients of them are her family.

New pictures show that Kat gathers the Slaters in the living room, where she gifts Lily with Zoe’s signature leather jacket, Mo with a Christmas bauble, Tommy with a book and Zoe’s daughter Jasmine with a mysterious floral box.

"This way, each of the Slaters can have a little piece of Zoe with them to always remember her by," says our source. "It’s brave of Kat to part with the few items she has left of Zoe, and shows how far she’s come since her daughter’s tragic death. She’s even back to wearing her leopard print and red lippy."

Now that Kat has turned a corner, is she on a path to coming to terms with her unimaginable loss?

When Kat and Alfie reconciled after their marriage almost fell apart, Alfie agreed to help his wife track down the man who was with Zoe in the hours before her death and make him pay.

Viewers know that the man they are looking for is Max, who left Zoe alone while she was struggling as he assumed she was just drunk instead of seriously injured.

Kat is currently no closer to solving the mystery, but with Oscar and Cindy both fully aware of Max’s secret, could Kat get to the truth soon?

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
