Coronation Street's Anthony Cotton teases Sean's future on the cobbles

Translate

Anthony Cotton has addressed Sean Tully's future in Coronation Street after more than 20 years. The actor has played Sean in the ITV soap since 2003, moving into No. 11 with Eileen Grimshaw and quickly becoming a surrogate son to her.

He has been involved in some of the show's biggest storylines, including becoming homeless and sleeping rough, his custody battle with Violet Wilson, and his son Dylan's involvement in knife crime.

His life on the cobbles has been somewhat quiet as of late, working in the Rovers and socialising with neighbours.

But actor Anthony has teased a huge role he would like Sean to take in the soap - and it wouldn't be for the faint-hearted.

"Eventually, I would love for Sean, even if it's only for a short while, to be the landlord of the Rovers, with his name above the door," he told Digital Spy at the 2026 Pride of Britain Awards last night.

"That would be a real treat, maybe I'm not old enough for that, I still think that I'm 21 in my head!"

Of his time on the soap and whether he would choose a different path in the world of TV, he said: "I've always said that Coronation Street has always been very good to me, and if it's not broke, don't fix it.

"We just filmed Christmas. I don't read any of the other stuff. I only know what I do. I'm not on Christmas Day; I'm on before, and I'm on after.

"There's a thing that happens on Christmas Day, but I'm not involved in that story, but I'm on before and after, and then New Year's. So we've just finished doing all that, which is always a bit hectic."

He continued: "I've been lucky enough in my career that I've always done other things. So you know, I'm doing another telly show next week. I've done one that's on over Christmas outside of Corrie. So I've always done other. My work with the armed forces takes up all of my spare time."

Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
