Elden Ring Surprise Update Officially Released

Known as 'Cyberpunk 2077's' biggest fan, Angharad is a Welsh games writer who thrives in anything related to digital storytelling. If a video game explores the intricacies and horrors of womanhood, she is there.
Thanks to previous work at GAMINGbible, GameByte, The Loadout, Game Luster, Angharad has built a strong understanding of both the digital world and what fans want from it and is eager to share her thoughts and expertise with readers.
It may have been almost four years since the launch of Elden Ring, but as with any FromSoftware title, it is set to stand the test of time, with legions of players still descending upon the Lands Between to take on some of gaming's most iconic bosses. With the open-world offering countless replayability opportunities, it is no wonder that gamers are finding new and unique ways to tackle the action RPG, and of course, its modding community have also helped keep the game alive with new and exciting content released on a regular basis.
Here at Screen Rant, our very own Christopher Teuton awarded Elden Ring a perfect 10/10 back in 2022, sharing:
Everything about Elden Ring feels like a celebration of what FromSoftware has accomplished since the original release of Demon's Souls, up to and including Déraciné and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. The open world genre is perfect for the developer's penchant for hiding NPCs, quests, and items in obscure and hard-to-reach locations, and the Lands Between have been crafted in such a way that it's nearly impossible to get too lost or overwhelmed at any given moment. Elden Ring is exactly what fans want it to be, and it very likely will become many people's favorite FromSoftware title yet.
Now, over three years on, it seems that even FromSoftware is not giving up on Elden Ring just yet, as Title Update 1.17.2 just launched alongside some interesting patch notes.
Whilst it may not be a major update featuring any content updates (much to our dismay), the 1.17.2 update offers a fix to a visual bug which targeted the Gold Tattoo Chest armor when the Hide Helmet option is on. There was also a bug fix for the Repeating Crossbow Skill, meaning that the left-hand graphics display only when you use this weapon in your left hand and hold Leontiel’s Greatsword in your right.
A bug has also been removed that caused status buildup when firing Piquebone Arrows and Fletched Piquebone Arrows in a certain manner and last, but by no means least, there have also been some adjustments to the text seen in the credits.
Like I said, a very minor update, but no less important if those bugs have been affecting your playthrough. With Elden Ring being a single-player title, and FromSoftware reportedly already turning its attention to other projects, it is unlikely that we will receive any major updates or content drops from this point on. However, it is still reassuring to see that the studio is still working on bugs, no matter how small they may be.
For now, Elden Ring fans can look forward to the upcoming live-action movie adaptation courtesy of A24. Set to hit cinemas and IMAX on March 3, 2028, it is still some time away, but with a stacked cast such as Kit Connor, Cailee Spaeny, Ben Whishaw, Nick Offerman, and more, it is no doubt that one of the best video games of all time is in good hands.
