Metal Gear Solid Officially Returning In New $400 Release

Considering just how popular it remains, the Metal Gear Solid franchise has been in an understandably weird spot since longtime creative lead Hideo Kojima left Konami. While he's very much embroiled in other projects right now over at new home Xbox, Konami haven't really stated what they plan to do with the beloved series moving forward.

We have already moved somewhat down the remaster and remakes route, and it's a fairly safe bet that more of those will be on the way at some point. It's the safer path for the developer to tread without the influence of Kojima moving forward, though that does leave new releases as considerably less likely at the time of writing.

All of that in mind, there are plenty of other products coming out all the time that keep the series alive, and one in particular would be more than deserving of the spot as the centerpiece of any physical collection.

Over on the official Gecco website, you should be able to find the product listing for the Raiden 1/6 Scale Statue. Modelled after the character's appearance in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, the highly detailed Polystone statue clocks in at an impressive $399.99. For all of that hard-earned money, though, you do get a lot of quality and flexibility.

In sharing a little about what fans can expect if they do decide to commit to the purchase, the manufacturer included the following description:

"Raiden, whose powerful presence and pivotal role defined the stealth-action masterpiece "METAL GEAR SOLID 4 GUNS OF THE PATRIOTS," has been captured as a 1/6 scale statue. Every element, from his intricate cyborg exoskeleton to his high-frequency blade and tactical knife, is sculpted with breathtaking precision.

"The base is modeled after Raiden’s iconic scenes supporting Solid Snake, featuring the scattered remains of a defeated Gekko. His dignified stance and focused expression perfectly convey his unwavering sense of duty to protect Snake. This release also includes an interchangeable head part with his visor lowered for added display versatility."

As an official release in conjunction with Konami, the detail is genuinely spectacular and it's currently available for pre-order. The only caveat is that it doesn't have a proper release date just yet, so if you do buy it, be aware that it might not actually be in your house for a while to come yet.

Other than that, we're going to have to sit tight and wait to hear what Konami is intending to do with the Metal Gear Solid series moving forward. It would be a huge shame if it were to be abandoned entirely, though it might need a new direction without its original creator having any involvement.
