Star Wars Is Officially Switching Genre In New 2026 Release

Since it first hit our screens back in 1977, the Star Wars universe has expanded exponentially. From multiple movie series to a plethora of television shows, video games and card games, novels and graphic novels, and everything in between, its popularity shows no signs of dwindling, and this week, it is set to welcome yet another major genre change that we have all been waiting for.
STAR WARS: Galactic Racer is an upcoming "runs-based, high-stakes reinvention of racing born in the lawless Outer Rim" from Fuse Games. Set to launch on 6 October, the story takes place following the departure of the Empire when the galaxy is attempting to rebuild itself and, as such, The Galactic League is born, welcoming an underground, unsanctioned racing circuit "where syndicates bankroll chaos and champions are forged."
The Empire’s grip on the galaxy has finally broken, and with its fall comes a new obsession: speed. As the New Republic struggles to rebuild, gambling, entertainment, and glory fuel a booming underground.
Out of this chaos, the Galactic League is born: an unsanctioned racing circuit where syndicates sponsor pilots, fortunes are won and lost in seconds, and only the bold survive.
No Force. No prophecy. Just skill, strategy, and the will to rise.
As you compete in high-stakes races, you will need to slam, shunt and takedown rivals across a series of unique circuits, all whilst piloting a large range of vehicles, including landspeeders, speeder bikes, skim speeders, and podracers. The harder the track, the greater the reward, and shooting to the top is the only way to gain fame.
As you take on the role of Shade, a lone racer on the hunt for revenge and glory, you will need to build and customize your craft, with each vehicle offering distinct physics and playstyles. To be able to come out on top, you will need to showcase your style and gain that competitive edge.
In STAR WARS: Galactic Racer, you can take to the track in solo-mode and embark on a story-driven campaign, or you can brave a competitive PvP mode which will see you go up against fellow racers and gradually build your reputation through the ranks. Whichever you choose, you will need to prove yourself through intense rivalries and escalating challenges.
Every choice shapes your prospects as you build your status in the Galactic League.
Set to launch this month, our very James Lynch was lucky enough to preview STAR WARS: Galactic Racer and said simply, "now, this is pod racing" in his review.
"A big part of the overall experience in Star Wars: Galactic Racer is the multiplayer, and you'll have to wait to hear our thoughts on that, but taking the single-player in isolation, developer Fuse Games have absolutely nailed it, as it stands," he wrote. "There's every world where this game offers full value for money without you ever having the need to engage with the online elements. If those can deliver, then this could easily be an all-time great franchise release."
