Coronation Street confirms Gemma's gene test result - as Bernie looks to the future

Gemma Winter received her gene test results in tonight's episode of Coronation Street. The family had been thrown into turmoil following Kit Green's breast cancer diagnosis and Bernie Winter being told she carries the BRCA gene mutation, which puts her children at increased risk of developing cancer.
Her daughter, Gemma, underwent testing in recent scenes of the soap to determine whether she too is at risk, while Bernie must consider her treatment options.
Tonight's episode began with an exhausted Kit ignoring DS Lisa Swain's advice to go home from work, but when a distressed woman in the waiting room had a coughing fit, he lost his temper and stormed out.

Kirk Sutherland witnessed the entire exchange and comforted the woman before telling Bernie, her husband Dev Alahan, and Kit's son Brody Michaelis about Kit's behaviour.
Brody defended his father's outburst, pointing out that because Kit is going through chemotherapy, he needs to be careful that he doesn't get sick.
Lisa, meanwhile, after trying to order Kit home because he looked exhausted, eventually told her co-worker that he needed to go on sick leave.
Kit was left furious and blamed Bernie, railing at her for being overprotective, but Brody stepped in and explained it was he who reported him to Lisa.

Later, Gemma took a call from the hospital while Bernie, Dev, Brody, and her husband Chesney listened on with bated breath.
She is told the test proved negative, and her loved ones were overcome with relief and emotion.
Dev turned to Bernie and said now it was time for them to focus on her and what she needed to do, to which she replied that when she knew, she would. How will Kit react to Gemma's results?
Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
