Coronation Street finally exposes Christina and Lucy secret in early ITVX episode

Coronation Street spoilers follow from Friday's episode (30 October), which is available to watch now on ITVX and YouTube but hasn't aired on ITV1 yet.

Coronation Street's Christina Boyd finally reveals her big secret to Lucy Parkinson in the soap's latest episode. But what will the consequences be going forward now that her granddaughter knows the truth?

Lucy has been unaware that Christina is her grandmother, with the latter giving up her mother Rachel for adoption. Lucy's foster parents Sally and Tim also know the truth, though tensions flared up in last night's episode when the youngster was moved to a respite home after her accusations against Sally.

Christina later lambasted Sally over hitting Lucy, which was actually a case of mistaken identity after a Halloween prank gone wrong, leaving Sally upset.

In tonight's (30 October) follow on scenes, Christina looks at a keyring photo of Rachel, admitting to George that she is "grieving the daughter I never knew", and reflects on her regrets. However, George reassures her that Rachel had a happy childhood.

Christina later finds Lucy, who has family videos on her phone. Christina stresses the importance of keeping those memories, though is shocked by one clip that shows Lucy's dad being abusive towards Rachel. A distressed Christina quickly leaves, though accidentally drops her keyring.

Back at the undertakes, Lucy later storms in demanding to know why a picture of her mum is in Christina's keyring. Christina then reveals that she is her grandmother, explaining that she gave Rachel away as a baby and deeply regrets her decision.

Lucy is shocked that she gave up her mum, bursting into tears, before Christina explains: "I was just a kid, remember. Days just turned into weeks, and months, and I felt so inadequate, so useless.

"And it wasn't because I didn't care for her, it wasn't because I didn't love her. I always loved her, just like your mummy always loved you. She will always love you."

Sally and Tim later catch Christina outside the undertakers, as she admits she told the truth to Lucy, feeling no choice under the circumstances with the keyring.

As they discuss next steps, Sally notes that she and Tim have a "duty of care" for Lucy, though as she criticises Christina over admitting the truth, Christina brings up the violent Halloween incident, leaving Sally upset once again as Christina and George leave.

Later on, Christina tells George about the video she saw, showing Richie in the background whispering something to Rachel, with the latter's face dropping in horror. She admits it reminds her of Todd as he was suffering abuse, and theorises that Richie killed Rachel intentionally rather than in self-defence.

"I have to do everything in my power to protect that child from him," she stresses.

Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
