Thai naval forces and other authorities arrested six Cambodian men for allegedly entering Thailand illegally through a natural border crossing in Chanthaburi province on Friday.

The men were detained at Ban Laem Mai in Thep Nimit subdistrict, Pong Nam Ron district, at around noon on 30 October, after soldiers on border surveillance duty spotted a group of suspicious individuals.

Authorities said the six men had no travel documents authorising their entry into Thailand.

During initial questioning, they reportedly said they had travelled from Battambang province in Cambodia, crossing the border on foot through an unofficial route to work as porters carrying luggage.

The arrest involved the Chanthaburi-Trat Border Defence Command, a Marine Corps task force, immigration officials at the Ban Laem permanent border checkpoint and investigators from Ban Phaeng Police Station.

The six men were taken to Ban Phaeng Police Station for legal proceedings.

The Royal Thai Navy said patrols and surveillance along the border would continue in coordination with other agencies to prevent illegal crossings and other offences.
