DC Officially Confirms New Green Lantern Series For 2027, Revealing First Look

Thanks to HBO Max’s epic Lanterns series, excitement for more Green Lantern content is higher than ever. Now fans have even more to look forward to: a brand-new series starring Hal Jordan is officially set to arrive in 2027. Today, DC Comics officially confirmed that Hal Jordan will star in the upcoming Green Lantern: Doomed Cosmos, a six-part series set in the Elseworlds imprint, DC’s label for stories outside the publisher’s main continuity. With the first issue set for release on January 20, 2027, fans can look forward to an S-tier creative duo spearheading the project: writer Dan Watters (Batman: Dark Patterns) and artist Kyle Hotz (Justice League Dark).

As with many of DC’s Elseworlds stories, Green Lantern: Doomed Cosmos will be darker than DC’s main continuity. The series will see Hal Jordan sent across a war-torn universe where humanity has conquered the stars and become a scourge upon them, and “the Green Lantern Corps is all that stands in its way.” Based on the early preview provided by DC, which can be found below, fans can expect a can’t-miss, blood-soaked space opera.

Joining Watters and Hotz will be Dan Brown on colors and Steve Wands on lettering. With such a well-established, A-list creative team behind it, DC is going all in on this series to deliver something truly epic. Green Lantern: Doomed Cosmos #1 will also feature variant covers by Björn Barends, Steve Beach, and Ashley Wood, plus a foil variant by Barends. DC’s official press release teases that Doomed Cosmos will transform the standard “Green Lantern mythology into a sprawling cosmic war where the human race is the enemy, and Hal Jordan may be the universe’s best hope for survival.” Notably, the series will also end one of the comic publisher’s most iconic friendships: the brotherhood between Hal Jordan and Oliver "Green Arrow" Queen.
