Exclusive: Hollyoaks confirms Gemma Johnson future after prison twist

Hollyoaks spoilers follow.
Hollyoaks star Tisha Merry has promised that her scheming character Gemma Johnson still has a future on the show now that her secrets have been exposed.
Gemma's world came crashing down last week as her father – police detective Donny Clark – finally learned of her involvement in organised crime.

The disgraced doctor is currently being held on remand as she waits to hear what her punishment will be, but she's already desperate to secure her freedom after getting a frightening early glimpse of life behind bars.
Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy about Gemma's future, Tisha explained: "I think there's going to be a lot more honesty [between Gemma and Donny], for a start!
"I don't think Donny has truly known who his daughter is. I think he's had an idea, but we're really stripping back now and she's been pushed into a corner where she has no mask to hide behind.
"She's got no power, she's got no crypto, she's got nothing like that. So the real Gemma comes out – the vulnerable side that we've not seen before."
Tisha also gave her take on whether Gemma could eventually redeem herself.

She laughed: "Yeah, of course she's redeemable! She's just misunderstood.
"It's not the end for Gemma, so it's all good. She'll be back, I'm sure. She'll redeem herself and then be up to something naughty all over again."
Last week's scenes saw Donny chase Gemma onto the hospital roof after learning about her crypto crimes and possible involvement in Ste Hay's disappearance, leaving him with no choice but to bring his daughter to justice.

Reflecting on the drama, Tisha added: "It was amazing – I keep saying that those scenes I filmed are the first scenes I've filmed so far in flat shoes!
"They were really pushing for me to wear flat shoes and I was like: 'No, no, Gemma's never worn flats! She's always in heels!'
"Then when I read the script, I was like: 'Okay, yeah, I do need to be in flats!' There was a lot of running, a lot of chasing, really high emotion and it was amazing to film."
Hollyoaks airs on Mondays-Wednesdays with its Channel 4 streaming premiere at 7am, then an E4 broadcast the same night at 7pm. Full episodes are also released on YouTube a week after their Channel 4 release.
