Boston Blue will be returning to CBS this fall with one of the biggest advantages it inherited from Blue Bloods coming into play, but CBS appears to be hiding the most exciting reunion the show's had thus far from its promotional material. Over the course of fourteen seasons, CBS saw the Reagan family as the emotional core of Blue Bloods, protecting and serving New York City as they moved through their own interpersonal issues. As one of CBS' most successful dramas, Blue Bloods carved out the relationships between the Reagan family, bringing their dynamics to life as they grew older.

After the end of Blue Bloods, the franchise chose to take a new direction with its spinoff, Boston Blue. The new series saw Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) leave New York behind and make a new start in Boston, and while Danny's siblings and family members were still involved in his life, the series was more about establishing a new base for the core character. Boston Blue saw several Blue Bloods crossovers during its first season, including Bridget Moynahan as Erin Reagan, but one of the core reunions of the series has yet to come ahead of Boston Blue season 2.

While the upcoming season is poised to reveal that another Reagan sibling will be headed to Boston Blue, which has previously been revealed on social media, CBS has yet to promote the fact that Will Estes will be joining the series as Jamie Reagan. Many are confused as to why one of Boston Blue's most exciting upcoming moments remains conspicuously absent from the show's promotional material.

Boston Blue Season 2 Trailer Has No Hints Of Jamie's Guest Appearance

With the first trailer for Boston Blue season 2 finally out, CBS has made it abundantly clear that they won't be revealing anything about Jamie joining the series, at least when it comes to previews or promotions. Though Estes has shared that he'll be on the series on social media, the trailer takes a look at the next chapter of Danny's story in Boston without mentioning his extended family. Instead, the trailer highlights Danny's continued work in the city, including his partnership with Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green), as well as the fallout from Boston Blue season 1's surprising cliffhanger ending.

While the trailer makes it clear that there are larger stakes for Boston Blue season 2, leaving Jamie out of the equation is a surprise, especially for those in the know that he'll be returning for the upcoming season. While Estes will be making a guest appearance on Boston Blue sometime in the upcoming season rather than joining in full-time, the fact that Jamie isn't featured in any of the promotional material for the show is somewhat confusing. Boston Blue choosing not to advertise a Blue Bloods character coming into the new series keeps viewers from looking too far ahead.

Why Jamie's Boston Blue Debut Is A Big Deal

As one of the characters with the most growth throughout Blue Bloods' run, Jamie coming to Boston Blue is a huge deal for fans of the original series. Danny and Jamie's relationship was one of the most consistently developed throughout the original show, with their sibling dynamic an ever-changing one due to the nature of their family as a whole. Danny, who brought his intense investigative style into his relationship with his younger brother, often struggled to deal with Jamie's measured approach to his work and his personal life. Together, the pair were a unique mix who respected one another.

Jamie was one of the few people who Danny felt he could confide in with his actual feelings, especially as things in his life grew more difficult. In turn, Danny was always someone Jamie turned to in difficult moments, both in their professional lives and their personal ones. With Jamie returning to the franchise and Estes getting the chance to work with Wahlberg again on Boston Blue, seeing Jamie will be an exciting moment on screen. With very little understanding of what will bring Jamie to Boston Blue or how long he'll stick around, the details will surely be exciting.
