Volkswagen is recalling nearly 300 VW Amaroks sold in the past three months due to faulty airbags.
The National Consumer Commission (NCC) issued a statement on Monday saying the faulty cars had associated risks that include “sharp-edged parts” that could “remain in the head or neck contact area” and cause injury in the event of an accident.
The affected vehicles were sold nationwide from 2 June to 15 September 2026.
“According to the supplier, in the event of a front or side impact, the curtain airbag may not fully deploy. This is due to contact with a component in the vehicle interior. Sharp-edged plastic components may also come loose or remain in the airbag.
“The issue may result in reduced protection for the driver and front passenger. Sharp-edged parts of the guide element could also separate or remain in the head or neck contact area, resulting in an increased risk of injury in the event of an accident,” the NCC said.
It urged the owners of affected vehicles to visit any approved Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles dealer to have the faulty components replaced.
The work will be carried out at no cost to the consumer.
